Springfield, Ill. - More than 40,000 unionized state workers got a pay raise last Thursday, bringing to 7 percent the amount they're gotten since last year. These same state employees are in line for another 7 percent by next July 1, all at a cost of a half-billion tax dollars a year.
It's more than the virtually bankrupt state can afford, and some Republican lawmakers say the raises need to be rolled back.

I hear ya. My 5% cut was annoying, but certainly not catastrophic. However, I don't know too many people who could take a 25% or 30% cut without feeling major pain. So all these government people who complain about their one or two percent raises, and these unionistas with their 14% bumps, make me want to puke.
It wll be kinda satisfying to watch these public employees
go Greek when the Illinois taxpayers run out of money to pay them
OMG!! Time to rise up agianst UNIONS!!!
Ditto here. And quarterly layoffs for the last 3-4 years.
Of course they still manage to bring in more H1B workers. That’s a gripe for another post.
Public Workers + Corrupt Media + Public Education = Permanent Democrat Majority
The title is somewhat misleading. A 7% increase followed by another 7% increase is NOT a 14% increase.
To find the actual increase from the original amount we need to multiply it by 1.07 twice. (1.07 represents a 7% increase.)
This is the same thing as multiplying by 1.07-squared: 1.1449
Subtracting the one (which represents the original amount), leaves .1449 which is just shy of 14.5%
it hasn’t been easy but at least i still have a job....i would just like to get back to where i do not have to live paycheck to paycheck and be worried all the time.....
Abolish the "closed shop" rules where union membership is required for certain jobs. People are free to associate, and that freedom rightly includes the right to NOT associate with communist union thugs.
Bust the unions. Bring back the gangbusters.
1.4%!!! That would be 3x what our company has been giving for the last three years now. Most people are taking pay cuts, benefits cuts and hour cuts. This is insane!
“When you steal from Peter to pay Paul you end up with a sore Peter”
If I could, I'd send a copy of that image to each and every household in Illinois."
Sorry Oceander - The dems in Illinois would say,"that's a lie. I'm a democrat and I didn't get a raise." They are completely partisan. No amount of logic and reason will sway them. Dems love corruption - especially the ones north of I-80.
14%, across the board? What about merit-based pay? But 14% is insane. My top performer, a guy that busted his backside all year, took on additional responsibilities, brought new technology to the company, brought in training for co-workers, literally set the bar for everyone else... You know what I was able to get him from corporate? 4.2%. I’d have given him 6% to maybe 8% if I could’ve. But 14%??? Who gets that kind of coin, across the board?
This is being partially funded with money from the fake “stimulus” billions.
I DO NOT want one thin dime of my tax dollars spent bailing these idiots out. They’re digging the hole, we’re warning them they’re broke - and they keep digging. IT’S NOT our problem.
Your children will be presented the bill, plus interest.
We’ll all be broke by the time they can present the bill - dems in Washington will have picked our pockets by that time.
