40,000 Illinois State Workers To Get 14% Payraises
Fox/Chicago ^ | 07 Jul 2010, | Mike Flannery, FOX Chicago News

Springfield, Ill. - More than 40,000 unionized state workers got a pay raise last Thursday, bringing to 7 percent the amount they're gotten since last year. These same state employees are in line for another 7 percent by next July 1, all at a cost of a half-billion tax dollars a year.

It's more than the virtually bankrupt state can afford, and some Republican lawmakers say the raises need to be rolled back.

Do you have the numbers on how many Chicago High School seniors can't read at a fifth grade level? That number would juxtapose so nicely with your list.

:)

It has been a while, but I’m going to say if you throw out the one or two good HS in a urban school system, the ones they keep just to keep the handful of white/jewish/asian kids still in the mind grinder. So toss those. Then what you have as in East St. Louis, Detroit, Oakland, Newark is half graduation rates. Of those that graduate, only half go on to finish one year of post HS education. So basically the racket produces 25 rates tested against anything outside the racket.
But it is even worse, as the 9th graders are usually a good 20 percent bigger class then when they become a HS Senior class. Where did those kids go? If you counted those dropped out kids in the rates, then the disorganization has something like a 15 percent, one year completion post HS rate. And all this at 15=20k/kid per year. Enough for a private school and three to four times a parochial school.
But if you were running a production plant you would or could, fold total costs into the few widgets that met customer standards, so another way of looking at urban, Democrat party, union teacher plant cost is that a post one year student cost somewhere around a 100,000/year times 12 years.

Leisler - amazing - worse than I thought - your reply takes my breath away. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

It’s worse than the money. There is the moral/ethical part of this.

What chance do these kids, with their brain neurons physiclly shaped by this...er..stimulus environment?

What is the effect on a young person, on millions, especially minority kids minds of going through these soft, but steady and persistant low quality mental enviorments?

In a way, they have to be brain damaged.

I think in a way, the drop outs sense this. Something in them is telling them to get out, that even the streets are a bit better, than the schools.

The KKK could not of designed a more racialists abusive machine than the modern urban school.

By the way, returning to the production/quality annology, the manufacture usually has to pick up repair costs for a year, or more aft wards. So some of the costs of police, social services, etc should also be passed back to the ‘school system’.

If I was a lawyer I’d have the largest class action suit in the world. I think there is enough race/equal opportunity case law out there. It would be huge and would bust/bankrupt cities and states. Good. The racket is not reformable. It needs to be destroyed. The only thing we have to lose are the costs and the mental assaults on generations of children.

However this was done in the Kansas City school system were a federal judge issued a billion dollar ...something...which basically went into the hands of contractors, teacher unions and administrator. Surprise.

We have to go to vouchers and free, uninhibited intellectual spending. If a kid wants to spend ten years in electric guitar school, let him. At least he had his dream, an interest for him, and it was upon him. Now it is just dullness and passivity with a life long dislike of learning.

It is almost as if the government doesn’t want people to like to learn. You couldn’t design a better system for shutting down peoples brains and making them long living welfare dependents.

Remember how the AARP supported Obama and Obamacare? They pulled out all stops when they sold this mess to Senior Citizens. Now, Obama’s union friends get a 14% raise while Social Security remained stagnant despite inflation.

Are the grey heads awake, yet?

They want them to learn. They just don't want them to be able to think.

Good catch. Correct. Yes.

I remember reading about some Nazi stuff where after they killed off those they wanted killed, they’d keep Slavs and only train/teach them enough to work fields, factories and such, but no thinking skills.

These lefties were all about ‘front groups’. The AARP is just a sheeple corral for older sheeple. Just like the NRA is a fake, government supporting anti 2nd Amendment group for dumb gun owners/citizens.

Did you notice that the Kagan nomination the NRA did make the statement that anyone that votes for this Harvard POS, that the NRA is going to support their opponent in November?

No.

They put out a wimpy, cover their butts statement so they can go back to the NRA sheeple and say, ‘See, we fought it’. When in fact it was just NRA kabuki theater.

The AARP elite are about first and foremost about themselves and their Washington friends. The very fact that a person signs up with them is proof that you are a knee crawling, mewing peasant that want’s something from your federal overlords, in exchange, mostly for your vote. The AARP leadership like the NRA certainly know the dynamics and view their ‘members’ that way. ( I have to admit at one time I thought I too was a member of The National Geographic Society. They even sent me a card every year. But I was a kid and my uncle used to buy the subscription. Every year I waited, patiently, to be invited on an exploration, but never received an invitation.)

And let me guess, all or most are from heavily dim counties.

When your Democrat teachers union, and your Democrat police department, and your Democrat fire departments with maybe a bunch of retired Democrats or large social service Democrats or public welfare housing Democrats.....yeah. It’s usually a Democrat county.

Usually a county that is aging and business and young people not on welfare or a government check are fleeing to Texas or Florida. Which means the county is in demographic, tax harvesting decline.

Out side of their bar rooms, I don’t know what they do,or don’t do. I know nothing of their leaders, philosophy, or actions.

You're right when you say urban schools can't be "reformed". Perverse incentives stubbornly in place will stop any real reform effort.

I also agree the KKK could not do greater damage to young black Americans than what their schools are doing to them now... It's a sad situation - thanks for sharing.

Sorry - couldn't resist one more comment about your reply: I'm thankful you're a freeper, Leisler. You're replies on the education mess were insightful, fair, and caring. Ideas matter. Again, thanks for sharing.

If elections won’t fix it the people themselves are broken. And the optimist in me says the majority are not.

You don't actually live here in Illinois like I do, do you?

If you did, you'd know that the urban majority in this state are full of government cheese eating, welfare check grabbing, gang-banging crack-heads that have been ruining this state for years.

It used to be that those of us with the means could move out of C(r)ook County and get on with our lives, leaving those crack-head gang-bangers to their own evil devices in that shithole called Chicago, but now it's spread out here.

So it's time to pick up again, and this time move the hell out of this God forsaken state.

The only ones that think that are the ones that are still in denial. The Cubans thought the same thing.
