Former astronaut Gene Cernan condemned NASA Chairman Bolten for his lunatic comments this past weekend on Aljazeera. Bolden told the Arabic Channel that the top objective of NASA is to make Muslims feel better about their scientific and mathematic achievements from hundreds of years ago.

You only need to listen to the first couple of minutes. Simply incredible. The Al-Jazeera interviewer starts out in his introduction of Bolden by making fun of NASA and space exploration in general - Science .... "Fiction" ..... and "Science Fiction" ... (wink at camera) ... while Bolden falls all over himself in fawning flattery ...
And then his first question of Bolden is (I paraphrase a little):
"So, exactly why the hell are you here in Muslim land, infidel? Muslims have nothing to do with science or the space explorations of the Great Satan. And besides, you guys made up all of that stuff in Hollywood.

Of course Gene Cernan is correct. Bolten has to know better. IMO this is not an intelligent approach to R&D for space exploration; it is a formula for failure, diverts away from the mission of NASA, and is an abrogation of responsibility. It is a shallow flip-off of NASA. It shows Obama's disdain for R&D and NASA.
R&D is costly, and cannot be staged to produce results in sync with the election cycle. Our discretionary funding pool is smaller than ever and shrinking as we add entitlements and debt. Besides, the countries we want to emulate (Cuba's health care) have no space programs to speak of. Why should we? It is not a priority in the Alinsky/Democrat "Community Organizer" playbook.

You want some hilarity? Go to nasawatch.com. The proprietor has been guzzling the Obama Kool-Aid from day 1, and he’s actually defending Bolden on this. It’s funny to see even his contingent of mostly liberal commenters starting to question Buraq Hussein Obama (mmm mmm mmmm!). What a tool.
