I can think of a more suitable location, one that would be more reflective of Byrd's life and career.

I wonder if he'll be laid to rest near any black patriots. Byrd might not have liked that.

From the Washington Post:

"Byrd said in the Dec. 11, 1945, letter -- which would not become public for 42 more years with the publication of a book on blacks in the military during World War II by author Graham Smith -- that he would never fight in the armed forces "with a Negro by my side." Byrd added that, "Rather I should die a thousand times, and see old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.."..."

Byrd should be cremated on the White House lawn.

“Your requested URL was not found,” was the message I got both for your link and the headline link. So, tell me, did Byrd ever serve in the armed forces?

Didn’t he die a few weeks ago or something? I think it took forever for James Brown to be buried as well. What’s up with this?

was to be buried later in the day at Columbia Gardens Cemetery

There is one thing he wasn't able to name after himself-- probably because its not in West Virginia.

I’m kind of surprised he wasn’t buried in West Virginia, but I guess they figured there were enough things there with his name on them.

I visited Arlington Nat'l cemetery last week, I was attending a Marine reunion in Washington. I've visited Arlington in the past, but haven't visited the Kennedy grave site. Jackie Onasis Kennedy is buried next to her first husband ... her grave is as elaborate (in terms of size) as JFK's. Interesting in that this women remarried, divorced, and later had a live in boyfriend in NYC for many years. But, hey ... we're talking liberals and Camelot.
What was just as appalling, Robert and Ted (the swimmer) were buried close by in the same plot. The only grave missing was Marlyn Monroe's.
