Politics: The Export-Import Bank wanted to stop the export of U.S. coal-mining equipment to India. But it seems coal isn't so bad, and green isn't all that special, when the re-election of a senator is affected.
President Obama journeyed to Wisconsin last Wednesday ostensibly to tout the success of his failed stimulus package(s). On the same day, the Ex-Im Bank announced it was reconsidering a denied loan guarantee affecting a Milwaukee-based company that sought to export coal-mining equipment to India. A coincidence? We think not.
Wisconsin is in play in November and so is the Senate seat held by incumbent Russ Feingold. A recent survey by Public Policy Polling showed Feingold leads challenger Ron Johnson by only two points, 45-43. Feingold, conscious of the president's negative coattails in Massachusetts, Virginia and New Jersey, made himself scarce during the visit, but Democrats still would like to hold the seat.

Interesting.
But, how many other MSM media will “ever” make this link?
Will Fiengold’s opponent say anything?
I'd put the chances of it being coincidence at "vanishingly small." Nothing obama does is a coincidence. I believe obama came out of one of the most corrupt political arenas in the Country. No way he came out of that looking like snow white. His administration reeks of corruption and all the worst behaviors that give politicians a bad name.
Imagine if George Bush had used the Export-Import Bank in this blatantly political/ideological manner!
And never mind that this decision is an exception to the Ex-Im Bank's openly "environmental" policy. Their original statement, when these loans were denied:
"President Obama has made clear his administration's commitment to transition away from high-carbon investments and toward a cleaner-energy future," was the explanation given by Ex-Im Chairman Fred Hochberg. "After careful deliberation, the Ex-Im Bank board voted not to proceed with this project because of the projected adverse economic impact."The Ex-Im Bank (a.k.a. "Obama's Stash") will continue to KILL AMERICAN JOBS in instances were the applicants do NOT have the kind of political pull Bucyrus was able to muster.
In their press release, here, Bucyrus openly, even proudly, admits their success was politically achieved. More Obamian coporate cronyism:
"We wouldn't have been able to get this back on the right track without the support of our business partners, elected officials and the Administration's support of U.S. manufacturer's exports," Sullivan said. "I would like to personally thank Governor Jim Doyle, Mayor Tom Barrett, Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, as well as Representatives Gwen Moore, Paul Ryan and Jim Sensenbrenner for helping Bucyrus, the Milwaukee region and beyond. We will need everyone's continuing support."BTW, Ex-Im Bank Chairman Fred Hochberg was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate.
Chairman Hochberg also committed to meetings with Mr. Sullivan and Congressional, Business and Environmental leaders in the coming months to clarify Bank policy. "I am looking forward to meeting in person with Chairman Hochberg and other leaders later this summer in Washington to clarify future policy so we can bring even more jobs to Wisconsin and the United States," said Sullivan.
It’s the Chicago Way

Multi-million dollar deal confirmed.
BECKLEY— — A Russian company has agreed to purchase a family-owned coal company in Raleigh County.
According to international reports, Mechel Mining is buying Bluestone Coal Corporation for $425 million, plus stock.
Bluestone is owned and operated by James Justice and based in Beckley.
In a statement issued to 59News, Justice said, “While a sale of Bluestone Coal Corporation has been the subject of much speculation over the last several months, it is not constructive for us to comment at this time. The transaction is with the global steel, coal and iron ore producer, MECHEL, OAO. Our formal announcement along with detailed comments will be made at the appropriate time.”
Mechel is Russia’s largest coal supplier to the steel industry.

EPA to delay 79 coal mining permits in 4 states

CHARLESTON, W.Va. President Barack Obama’s administration put the brakes on 79 applications for surface coal mining permits in four states Wednesday, saying they would violate the Clean Water Act.
The action is the administration’s latest attempt to curb environmental damage from a highly efficient but damaging mining practice known as mountaintop removal. Each permit likely would cause significant damage to water quality and the environment, the Environmental Protection Agency said in a statement.

Obama Mobilizes EPA Troops for War on Coal

WASHINGTON, D.C. Institute for Energy Research President (IER) Thomas J. Pyle issued the following statement today in response to the Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) decision to place a strict and indefinite moratorium on new mountaintop mining projectsa decision about which Democratic Gov. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) and others in the Appalachian region are very concerned.
President Obama has made his intentions to bankrupt the coal industry clear. EPAs actions this week demonstrate that he will wage a war against the energy source that generates half of Americas electricity and is our nations most abundant, reliable, and affordable energy resource.
Even more dismal are estimates that show how this action will affect the 65,000 members of the Appalachian workforce who stand to lose some of the best, highest-paying jobs available in the region. Thats not to mention the $12 billion in lost economic development that an area already wrestling with our current economic downturn will have to reconcile.

Don’t forget,,, the war on coal domestically is also the war on railroads. Coal is one of the most important cargos carried by the railroads.
Kill them financially, then you get to nationalize RAIL!
The surest way to ensure deaths overseas mining coal is to deny financing for exports to other countries of the equipment they need to do it safely.
You mean like ConRail and AmTrak? Don't forget that the socialists support high-speed passenger rail, like in Europe (where they make the trains run on time; er, well, they did under effective Obama-like leadership.) Passenger service has been a loss ever since the Model T, and needs the government to support it, to save the planet from Climate Change (or whatever the crisis is this week)!
