Gun regulation 2.0 (barf alert)
Chicago Tribune ^ | 04 july 10

Some sound ideas — and some that are doomed in court.

In the weeks leading up to the Supreme Court decision on Chicago's handgun ban, Mayor Richard M. Daley sounded unwilling to concede any ground on the issue even if the ordinance was overruled. But when it was finally struck down, the mayor had to resign himself to limits on the city's power to restrict firearms.

The new ordinance that he proposed and the City Council quickly passed on Friday makes an attempt to respect the rights of gun owners, even as it tries to prevent misuse of such weapons. Some of the provisions will do some good. But some of them are very likely to be struck down by the courts.

The law has several provisions. It requires handgun owners to get a city permit, costing $100 for three years, and register their weapons at $15 apiece. They would have to go through a training class. They could register no more than one new gun per month.

Guns would be allowed in homes, but not in garages, front porches or yards. Only one weapon at a time could be kept in ready-to-fire condition. Gun sales and firing ranges would be banned in the city.

attention big cities.

long prison terms/execution of criminals who use guns in the commission of a crime is all the gun control you need.

you people(big city libs) coddle criminals and criminalize decent citizens. and this too is what needs to be changed about America when the obama community organizer mentality finally pushes us too far.

When they come for my guns they’ll get them: bullets first.

The new ordinance... makes an attempt to respect the rights of gun owners

It does no such thing. You can't have a loaded gun in your car, you can't carry concealed, and you can't even carry in your YARD or GARAGE!

What part of "keep and BEAR (carry) arms" is not clear, libs?

“Mayor Richard Daly” was in charge of Chicago when I was a kid — 50 years ago — father? What a corrupt cesspool. How do these people keep getting elected, decade after decade after decade?

Every one of these is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

“The new ordinance... makes an attempt to respect the rights of gun owners

Mayor-for-Life, his excellency, Generalissimo Daley has succeeded in having his sycophantic lackeys pass a petulant and illegal “new” ordinance that “flips the bird” to the Supreme Court and the U.S. Constitution. His arrogant disregard for the law is akin to Lester Maddox in the schoolhouse door with a pick axe handle.

Notice how they always harass LEGAL individuals while they deliberately leave CRIMINALS alone.
It is intentional. They know what they are doing.

I believe that would be the "NOT INFRINGE" part I have some coworkers who think this way. They find guns to be terrifying. They don't like the thought of anyone having them, regardless of whether the person is a criminal or not.. It seems to be a bit like swimming and fear of water. If you never swam as a child, there is a fair chance that you will be scared of water. Same thing for guns. If you were never around them, never knew anyone who had them... its easy to fear them.

But guns are a pure menace in the hands of thugs on the street. Knowing with certainty that if you get caught doing the crime, you'll do the time, can be a powerful deterrent to gunplay. Ensuring that certainty also has the rare power to united gun-rights and gun-control activists in making Chicago a safer city.

I must be reading from the onion, if this was really written by the chicago Tribune.

How are you going to take a training class if you can’t take your gun out of your house?

But I’m sure the city will be making lots of money when all the gang-bangers come in to register their weapons.

There are about 20,000 unconstitutional laws restricting arms because the people didn’t fight them at the very beginning.A lot came about under the socialist dictator FDR.But rare is the politician who repeals old,bad laws.
