Members of the Chicago City Council have approved what city officials say is the strictest handgun ordinance in the United States.
Friday's 45-0 vote comes four days after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling made it almost certain that Chicago's handgun ban would be overturned. The high court ruled Americans have a right to own a gun for self-defense anywhere they live

Republicans in Chicago gov?! BWA-HAHAHAHAAAA! You’re funny!
I don’t know soccer, I follow real sports like Football.
I wonder what the highest spread and biggest score is.
Chicago wants you to pay a fee to exercise a constitutional right.

Believe it or not, the answer is 149 - 0. AS Adema defeated Stade Olymique L’Emyrne (SOE) 149-0 in 2002, and in fact, managed it without scoring a goal themselves. SOE started scoring own goals in protest of a couple of bad refereeing decisions. SOE persevered, scoring a goal every 40 seconds, while Adema’s players could only stand and watch as SOE self destructed. I mean after about 100 goals or so, you might think they might have stopped, but no - they continued till the final whistle. This was a league game in Madagascar’s top division.
Well... I know it was a silly question, but if I can make just one person out there smile, it makes my day. ;-)
Why do these DEMOCRATS sound and act just like the DEMOCRATS who stood in the doors of the school buildings and challenged the Federal Agents who brought the black kids to school? I doubt the idiot in the white house would see the irony.
That's a rather misleading title. Chicago is actually relaxing its restrictions from an outright handgun ban to an onerous system of licensing.
But my guess is that the gungrabbers at the AP had to frame the title at least as some sort of gungrabber victory rather than the actual defeat that this retrenchment represents.
I also noticed that the council has 45 members - that’s four or five times as many as most city councils, and it suggests an extremely bloated government. And the 45-0 vote suggests an extremely monolithic and un-diverse council.
NEAT!
more work money from tax payers to lawyers!
Next they’ll try to legislate where the bullets can go....
Guns don’t kill people, people kill people and it usually involves bullets. Some lawmaker in Chi town will come up with a bullet restriction, just watch.
All one needs to understand is that in a democracy (and I wouldn’t really call us a republic any more), people get what they want.
“Richard Michael Daley (born April 24, 1942) is a United States politician, member of the national and local Democratic Party, and currently the Mayor of Chicago, Illinois. He was elected mayor in 1989 and reelected in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003, and 2007...He took over 70% of the mayoral vote in 1999, 2003, and 2007.”
Over 70% of the people of Chicago WANT to be helpless subjects of governmental power. And they are. Their Choice!
“The gun bans only hurt good law abiding citizens ability to defend themselves. The gangs and criminal elements will acquire guns regardless of any law or ban.”
Agreed, so how do we put teeth in Supreme Court decisions?
I like your plan.
Citizen nullification time.
“I wonder how many of those 45 have a gun of their own?”
Umm, I’ll guess. 45?
“...The new city ordinance bans gun shops in Chicago
and prohibits gun owners from stepping outside their homes,
even onto their porches or garages, with a handgun...”
-
How’s a patriot supposed to protect his country from tyrants
if there are no shops that will sell him arms,
and even so, he is not allowed to bear them.
Contempt!
“My rights dont come from government, they come from God,” is a concept that eludes the Wise Latina and the Dumb Dyke.
Actually, there are 50 aldermen. One of whom is a Republican. (I believe he is a RINO, but am wondering if he voted.)
“I wonder how many of those 45 have a gun of their own?”
All of them. This is Chicago.
Protection for mi’Lord and Ladies, but not for thee.....
