NEWS FROM Detroit DSA

Michigan DSA'ers work to build progressive political alternatives

A letter from Detroit
I am writing to let you know about some important political developments here in Michigan. I hope you will be able to help us out. All of us are frustrated by progressive members of Congress who end up ducking the tough votes or even walk away from the progressive legislative agenda.
In Michigan, DSA members are concentrating on electing candidates who share our values. We are developing a "farm system"so that when congressional seats open, we know that we will have tested progressives ready to fill those seats.
In this election cycle, we are supporting three candidates for the Michigan state senate in their primary election campaigns:
Vincent Gregory for the 14th district seat (Southfield-Farmington Hills)
Paul Gieleghem for the 10th district seat (Clinton Township-Roseville), and
Isaac Robinson for the 3rd district seat (Detroit-Dearborn).
Vincent Gregory is presently serving as the state representative from Southfield. He is a former police officer who served as president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) local representing the officers in the Wayne County Sheriffs Department. He has been a strong supporter of public education and universal health care.
Paul Gieleghem is a former state representative and presently serves as chair of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners. In that role, he led the fight for a countywide living wage ordinance.
Isaac Robinson, a DSA member, is the political director for Teamsters-Council 43. He has been a leader in the Michigan Young Democrats. He is the son of long-time Detroit DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) Chair and activist Roger Robinson.
On July 9th we are hosting a fundraising reception for our endorsed candidates. Donations of any size will be gratefully accepted in support of these candidates. Please note that checks should be made out to the individual candidates campaign committees:
Vincent Gregory for State Senate
Paul Gieleghem for State Senate
William Isaac Robinson for State Senate
Checks should be mailed to me at 28292 Harwich Drive, Farmington Hills, Michigan 48334. If your check arrives by the 9th, we will be able to include it in the total we announce at the reception. Thank you in advance for your help.
In solidarity,
David Green
Chair, Greater Detroit DSA
PS If you have any questions about the candidates you can email me. Also, please note Under Michigan campaign finance rules, the maximum an individual may contribute to a campaign for state senate is $1000. State law also requires political committees to report the name, mailing address, occupation, and name of employer for each individual whose contributions aggregate in excess of $100 for the election cycle. No corporate checks please.
Paid for by David Green, 28292 Harwich Dr., Farmington Hills, Mi 48334.

I’m still in shock that Socialists are not only so prevalent, but so in our faces.
