MOSCOW One of the Cold War's most famous defectors says Russia probably has about 50 deep-cover couples and maybe even up to 60 of them spying inside the United States.
Oleg Gordievsky, a former deputy head of the KGB in London who defected in 1985, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev would know the number of illegal operatives in each target country.
The 71-year-old ex-double agent .. "there's usually 40 to 50 couples, all illegal."
"The president will know the number, and in each country how many but not their names," said Gordievsky, ..
The FBI announced Monday the arrests of 10 alleged deep-cover Russian agents after tracking the suspects for years.

The O’s would not seem to have the intellectual horsepower needed for such a deep cover role. Michelle, in particular, is about as bright as a bag of rocks. Think the KGB would have given the pair a “No thanks”.
50? 69? I would be VERY surprised if there were under 300 or so. The Ruskies have had several decades to plant NOCs & other long term cover agents here.
It would be FAR more easy to do this than to fill out your income tax report yearly...

The moles are stymied at every turn as the govt. beats them to the punch.
Haha now there’s a power couple!
My parents lived in Europe in the 1930's and through the war. They fled their home when the communists took over and the Iron Curtain came down. My mother agrees that it feels an awful lot like the 1930's now, with powerful forces pushing ordinary people around, and the general sense of foreboding. My father was very alarmed during the 2008 campaign and was scared of what people seemed about to elect. Since then, he has largely unplugged from it and focuses on his family, fishing, hunting, and his garden. At 89, he just doesn't have the energy to fight tyranny and is trying to enjoy what time remains. I can understand it. He had a lot of "lost years" during the war and its aftermath.
That ‘Got Socialism’ pic is spot on! Thanks for posting it.
These Russian spies will get a slap on the wrist.
After all, Russia is now supposedly a friendly nation.
But if they were Israeli spies they’d get life in prison or the death penalty.
