KPFT, Pacifica affiliate in Houston, is off the air (due to "vandalism", actually copper theives)
Houston Chronicle ^ | June 28, 2010 | Jeff Bair

...note on their website tells the story:

The power line to the KPFT transmitter tower was cut during the night, most likely by copper bandits. Harris County sheriffs are conducting an investigation at this time. The building housing our transmitter was damaged and must be repaired before the electrical service can be restored. It is possible we may be off-line for the remainder of the day, maybe longer. We are, however, still on in Galveston (yay 89.5!) and available thru our stream at www.kpt.org...

Houston PING

Note, it was the Comical that put “vandalism” as the cause in their hyperline and subtitle for this piece.

since nobody listens to this commie station, I guess they decided to tell the fish wrap paper to make an announcement. Not sure why the need to let 10 people know about this though ...

If I roar with laughter over this, does that make me a bad person?

I wonder how much of Pacifica’s operating budget still comes from the federal government.

Now, now - if you want to get spun up there’s nothing like listening to “Hypocrisy Now” with Amy Goodman 8:00 - 9:00 AM and 5:00 - 6:00 PM.

Your irritation with the traffic will seem like nothing. Of course, the frothing at the mouth, pounding on the steering wheel and screaming and yelling DOES tend to attract police officers.

The antisemitic hate of George Galloway finds a home on the airwaves of KPFT.

I am one of their two listeners (hippies make me laugh), and I’m not that sad. I figure better than half of KPFT listeners are conservatives that find the whole network amusing.

What’s really funny is that KPFT (Houston Hippie Radio) has two-week fund drives four times a year (listening to marxists beg for money is always funny), and barely raises enough to scrape by ...

... but KSBJ (Houston Christian Rock) does one two-day fundraiser and raises enough funds for the whole year. (They also raised hundreds-upon-hundreds of thousands of dollars in a one day fund drive for Haiti).

KPFT would kill to raise half as much as KSBJ can. Conservatives really are superior in both numbers and generosity.

Time was KPFT was a freeform station with local programming, music and political. There was a national coup and they chased much of the music programming off the station (with several internal purgings of the music collection including some arson).

They are in perpetual fundraising mode to pay for round the clock political diatribes.

They should be happy for making a contribution to improve the lives of the poor, possibly illegal aliens, or as they would call them, “persecuted migrants”.

That being said, years ago, I got a great laugh listening to a pirate radio station in Tucson. A Maoist communist pirate radio station.

They were just finishing up playing some low quality live track of Joan Baez doing a concert for some impoverished communist dung heap, then launched into a bitter diatribe about the “persecuted” former dictator of East Germany, Erich Honecker, who they felt should be made dictator of all Germany, instead of being tried for multiple murders of people trying to escape his commie Hell on Earth.

The people who ran that little station should have been bottled in preservative and put in a museum along with other freaks.

Police are looking for a perp with pockets stuffed with 2 dollar bills.

Houston locals will get it.
