Feb. 2009: Sen. Robert Byrd doffs his hat for reporters as he arrives at the Capitol in Washington.
Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia, the longest-serving senator in American history, died Monday at the age of 92, a spokesman for the family said.
Byrd, a Democrat who served in the U.S. Senate since 1959, had been plagued by health problems in recent years and was confined to a wheelchair. He had skipped several votes in Congress in the past months.
Jesse Jacobs, a family spokesman, said Byrd died peacefully at about 3 a.m. at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Va.
He was the oldest member of the 111th Congress.
The passing of Sen. Byrd will not affect the balance of power in the Senate. West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin, a Democrat, will appoint a replacement senator to serve out the remainder of Byrd's term which ends in 2012.
I didn’t know that he endorsed Bush on Larry King! I do know that he voted many times to confirm GWB’s judges; he even voted for Judge Roberts, Alito, and several other conservative judges, such as: Janice Rogers Brown (who was black, I believe), Priscilla Owen, also all of Bush’s Attorneys General!
Yep
Not to badger you, but why haven’t you answered my question? Perhaps you missed it, or thoughtit was a gotcha question. I’m just interested to see how you arrived at your conclusions.
Let me rephrase it. You say you can’t imagine God following a certain course of action. Well, to know God’s character and how likely or unlikely it is that He would do something, you’d need to have information about Him. So, what is your source of information about God? What facts lead you to believe that He doesn’t ever punish His creations (or that He makes people evil) and what is the source of those facts?
‘twas on a starry night
The cross was burning bright
They told me from on high
That the grand kliegel had died
I have a lot of information about Him. He created the Universe. Everything I see, everything I learn about the world we live in, and the worlds beyond, tells me about God.
It’s always sad when someone goes to hell.
What is it about the Universe He created that tells you He doesn’t ever punish His creations?
I never said that God doesn’t punish his creations. I said He doesn’t punish them for failing to live up to His expectations.
