Disturbing disdain for the rule of law
NY Post ^ | June 27, 2010 | Michael Goodwin

With the shock still fresh over the sacking of Gen. Stanley Mc Chrystal, it fell to Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, to put the case in perspective: "We are and must remain a neutral instrument of the state, accountable to and respectful of those leaders, no matter which party holds sway or which person holds a given office."

Mullen's statement came as a defense of President's Obama decision to replace McChrystal, but it also served as a clear expression of the military's submission to civilian leaders. Sadly, the admiral's comment was necessary because of the dangerous divisions the incident exposed.

While McChrystal is a genuine patriot and warrior, too many Americans were ready to excuse the disparaging comments by him and his staff on the grounds that Obama deserves the mocking rebuke. Those defenses left me with the unhappy conclusion that the disuniting of America is surging ahead at a heart-stopping pace.

If not in a case like this, there is no place left where a single standard of conduct still applies.

Everything is bitterly politicized, including the view of the military's place in society. The saying that "where you stand depends on where you sit" is being taken to a troubling extreme.

It is sad that the Obamanists have even less regard for the rule of law than some of the pro-military letter writers referenced by the author. And if America has become excessively politicized, who can we thank for that?

Methinks the public needs to read the Declaration of Independence.

someone should ask... why did mccrystal have an interview with rolling stone in the first place?

everything I have read about the man shows him to be no nonsense with a solid ‘get it done’ attitude. why woukd this man take time away from the war to do an interview with such a magazine? it just doesn’t make sense.

and if he didn’t schedule the interview myself... then who has the authority to order him to Paris and to give the interview?

smells like a political setup. question is, by whom and why?

I belive it is a mistake to see this situation as a right-left split. It doesn't add up that way.

But - if you look at it as a left-left split, as an Obama/antiObama split among the left, among the Democrats alone, then the pieces fall into place.

McChrystal isn't gong conservative - he's undermining Obama for the other side of the Dems. For the Hillary side, if you will. What you are watching is the conceptual splitting off of the other faction, for elective purposes.

That the safety of men and women in combat and the security of a nation in war is being sacrificed for such political calculations is merely the eternal disdain of the Left for anything it sees in it's way, or that can be used as a tool.

Really? Imagine that.

Add the suicide of that Gulf Coast fisherman, the fear and depression/anxiety of every Gulf Coast resident...not to mention the rest of the country — the delay in doing anything about the oil spill, refusal to ask/accept offers of help from 26 countries — (let’s not waste any emergency in the march toward communism!) Oil industry be damned! Jobs lost, lives ruined while Zero goes golfing. And what do we see? Evidence of Wm. Ayres’ comment that they’d probably have to ‘eliminate’ 36 million Americans once they take over. Someone else quoted 25 million, but that’s irrelevant. What we see is evil incarnate in the White House.

And evidently it’s going to get worse, much worse. Our beloved leader (should that be in capitals?) said yesterday that we’d better (in essence, sit down and shut up), because he’s going to hit us where it really hurts in January. What can he be hinting at? VAT? Cap and trade? Energy bills skyrocketing, including the price of gas. Elderly choosing between heat and light or food. Forget meds, they won’t be able to afford them. And death panels will lower the elderly population, anyway. The elderly, middle class beating a path to food banks and the Salvation Army on a regular basis. Oh, and control of the internet, end of free speech. Our beloved leader has plans for us. Big plans.

Some years ago I read on FreeRepublic that the “Bill of RIghts is not a suicide pact...” In that same vein, we cannot allow “one side” of this polarization to ignore the contraints of the Constitution while we sit in it’s handcuffs and let them destroy our country. I am sorry to say it, but I still believe that the military still has to “choose a side”. WIllit continue to protect the politicians at the expense of the people or will it ultimatley “turn” and insist on reinstituting The Constitution.

Hey Sten, don’t know what you’ve been reading, but McChrystal is a demrat general. A PC advocate who either imposed or accepted impossible ROE (rules of engagement) on our soldiers; and championed a medal for soldiers who refrained from firing even if they and their follow soldier’s lives were endangered. In other words he is a loon who is directly responsible for unnecessary wounding and killing of US and allied soldiers. He has even owned up to voting for Onada. No serving military officer, who is sworn to uphold the Constitution, should be voting for or taking orders from a man who has never demonstrated he is a native born US citizen.

Frankly I wouldn’t give a bucket of spit for any of today’s senior military leadership.

After 40 years of PC training of the military during which the military has amply demonstrated that it will obey and salute pure bullshit and call it good I think the answer to the former question is ‘yes’. This has been the whole point of PC from the beginning, that orders are followed PERIOD. There are a collection of individuals in the military who will say ‘no damn way’ but the military structure ITSELF belongs to the liars.

The strange part for me is that, according to Fox, McChrystal said he voted for Obama and also banned Fox News from his HQ in Afghanistan.

He may have been a fighter but he also seems to have some very odd PC, hippy-dippy attitudes.

It may come to that.

If the ‘Rats continue their abusive ways and “We the People” determine that it is time to take forceful action, we will require the services of the loyal military since we patriots won’t be fighting tyrants with muskets this time.
