It is much easier to dismiss a commander over a mistake such as hitting a pier than over IG complaints.

“the Hall suffered damage costing $160,000 to repair. “

Probably just a couple of toilet seats that got knocked loose?

I work with an ex-navy guy and he tells me that the Captain is always responsible even if he isn’t.

Even if he isn't, he still is. Captians are there to provide the leadership necessary for the ship to run and the crew to perform. Failure to perform indicates a failure of leadership. Now I won't go so far as to say that a comet strike would end the career, but it wouldn't help.

Hope this cleans some of it up on why a Commanding Officer is alays at fault.

You are absolutely correct. As a former Chief-of-the-Boat (COB) and 20-year retiree in the Navy I can tell you that the skipper of a United States ship has awesome powers but he certainly has to pay a price for that high honor. He (or nowadays she as well) is ultimately responsible for anything that goes wrong short of an act of God.

The Navy taught me that “You can assign authority, you can not assign responsibility.” You are responsible to train and instruct those you allow to act in your place as relief.

This is how fascism works. People are so worried about their job, income, that they do not stand up and protest what they see happening inside of the government and military.Pretty soon they have the whole "politically correct" network in place that does not care one wit about the Constitution. After Obama is ousted, we will have to do some surgery, especially in and around the Fed, Fannie/Freddie, the EPA and the higher echelons of the military. It wouldn't surprise me if we had another McCarthy Era, which did the same thing we need now to defeat communism. Now we have to do it again to defeat fascism.Essentially the whole Barry Soetoro movement is unamerican, and at its root, seeks to destroy the constitution.

What Barry is engaged in is "Unamerican activity." Joe McCarthy was no villain as portrayed by the left. He actually destroyed the communist movement which was getting prepared to do what Obama is doing now, but from a different ideological base. Obama is a thug, a fascist thug, and so are his Czars, and the infrastructure he has created is the same. All Unamerican activity is justified by their ideology. Soon these activities will become secretly violent as they are becoming now, and then finally openly violent. There is a "cowing the population curve," that is being followed. This is accomplished using the politics of crisis, such as is happening with the BP oil well crisis. All designed to cow people and expand the authority of government over individual lives.

It is a great boon to me to see that some of the people of color in this nation know exactly what Barry is up to. I wish they could become more vocal like tea party leader Sonnie Johnson, who is also a leader of the Frederick Douglas Society. In the best of worlds she would link up with Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and Sarah Palin.

People like these ladies could clean the dirty thuggish house that Barry Soetoro has created specifically to diminish individual freedom such as speech rights, property rights ( environmentalism).Hopefully all this can happen without the necessity for civil disobedience and violence. Barry wants violence, which is why he is conducting himself in the way he is.But it may come to that. And if so, then we are in for some very difficult times as people of say, Arizona, take back sections of their state from the Mexican Drug Cartels that Barry wants to have flourish.

Sonnie, BTW, is not hard to look at. I think she is extremely beautiful and bright. She has the ability to become a Senator quite quickly. It is people like her that give me hope.I also hope she runs for the Senate in 2012.

Frederick Douglas Society's Sonnie Johnson

I guess we have come a long way since the day’s of Reagan’s navy, mostly in the wrong direction. Being familiar with the merchant fleet and port operations myself, I have real doubts as to the ability of female sailors to perform damage control under prolonged arduous circumstances. If the navy is ever in a real war again, I believe we’ll pay the price.

The relationship of a ship's commanding officer to his ship is not the same as that of an Army battalion commander to his battalion.

Strange as it may sound to non-Naval ears, the Captain is the ship, the Captain becomes indistinguishable from the metal, electronics, weapons and crew.

The melding is so complete that for instance, when the Captain of The Sullivans arrives or departs the ship, the 1MC (ship's PA system) does not inform the crew that Captain Smith arrived/departed.

No, the bosun mate of the watch informs the crew, "The Sullivans, departing."

One of the guys I worked with used to get a laugh out of that when his skipper got piped aboard another ship/boat. His boat was the USS Whale.

This is being discussed in detail. What is becoming apparent is that the Navy is dysfunctional in choosing COs. Half of those who rise to command are incompetent but are boosted by the sponsorship of one or more flag officers despite their inability to command. The cruiser skipper recently relieved was a shrieking tyrant who threw dishware and nav instuments at her officers and gave “time outs” to senior and master chiefs who were made to stand in the corner of the bridge.

If a meteor is falling, it should be picked up by the ship’s defense system, at the least, NASA should know about it. So an alert would go out to ships in the general area, so, yes, the skipper would be responsible.

Please tell me you are joking.

What the hell does you post have to do with the US Navy and responsibility of the Captain of a US Naval Vessel? I don’t necessarily disagree with your post but I fail to see the connection with the posted comments. Has something escaped me?

The dismissal/retirement rate of officers is very high. With who shall they be replaced? The US Navy is full of Muslims at the apex of its comman hierarchy my FRiend, and I am talking about how it can be dismantled.I hope that suffices, if not, well, I tried.

You cannot be serious. If this is true why don't I know about it? What evidence do you have of this? I haven't heard anything about this and I pay really close attention. Are you making this up? Please provide some sources that I can verify. I know at least a dozen ex-navy guys and a few who are on active duty. None of these people have said anything about this and some are fairly high ranking officers.

Google Hesham Isham And Stepane Coughlin.

That should help you put it all together. It goes from the JCS into all branches of the service.
