Sarah Palin praises column linking Obama, Hitler
Politico ^ | June 25, 2010 | Andy Barr

Posted on 06/25/2010 1:47:07 PM PDT by jazusamo

Former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin on Friday encouraged her supporters to read an article comparing the BP escrow fund to Nazism.

“This is about the rule of law vs. an unconstitutional power grab,” Palin tweeted, urging her followers to “Read Thomas Sowell’s article.”

The article Palin points to was published on Monday and was widely criticized for writing that, like Adolph Hitler, President Barack Obama is stripping away the freedom of his citizen without mass protest.

“When Adolf Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s, leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics,” Sowell wrote.

“In our times, American democracy is being dismantled, piece by piece, before our very eyes by the current administration in Washington, and few people seem to be concerned about it.”

Sowell then wrote that Obama is exceeding his legal authority by creating the $20 billion fund, designed to pay claims for damage resulting from the ongoing oil spill off the Gulf Coast.

“Just where in the Constitution of the United States does it say that a president has the authority to extract vast sums of money from a private enterprise and distribute it as he sees fit to whomever he deems worthy of compensation? Nowhere,” the conservative columnist wrote.

“And yet that is precisely what is happening with a $20 billion fund to be provided by BP to compensate people harmed by their oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.”

Sowell also compares the American public under Obama to the “useful idiots” who followed Lenin's creation of the Soviet Union.

A Palin spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Democratic National Committee seized on the remarks, blasting around a story highlighting Palin’s tweet. Liberal groups also expressed outrage over Palin’s endorsement of the story.

“Sowell’s article would be ridiculous if it weren’t so vile, and it deserves to be marginalized. That Palin, a leader of the Republican Party, would encourage her hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers to read it, while implying her agreement with its argument, is troubling,”

People for the American Way President Michael B. Keegan said in a statement. “Does Palin agree with Sowell that President Obama’s work to hold BP accountable for the worst oil spill in American history can be compared to the actions of Hitler?”

You know the number one reason I think Palin is the right person to lead Conservatives at this time in history? Look at the people she pisses off.

Nice title to the article. Of course, most stop reading before they get to the last word.

Bad title for your posted thread.

Should have been “praises Thomas Sowell column”.

That title sounds really bad.

What a piece of crap, this Barr guy. To use that title for his column. The intention is obvious, but why are they afraid of losing the liberal Jewish vote to Palin?

Somehow, Bob J is going to claim that this is just another example of Sarah being corrupt like everyone else.

You know they’ve been trying to get that headline for a while—”Palin Praises Hitler”.

And of course the people outraged are the same ones who spent eight years referring to President Bush as “Chimpy McBushitler.”

Yea. Sarah Palin encouraging people to read a Thomas Sowell (a national treasure) article becomes "Sarah Palin praises Hitler column". What a joke Politico is.

“Does Palin agree with Sowell that President Obama’s work to hold BP accountable for the worst oil spill in American history can be compared to the actions of Hitler?”

Clever wording.

We're two months in and the only thing O has done has been to impede the clean-up, to stop ships and crews from deploying, stop states and communities from acting on their own behalf, but he did find time to send his lawyers in to see if he could prosecute someone and he managed to squeeze $20 billion out of them for a fund he controls.

Its supposed to be for the clean-up but since he won't be paying BP from it, and the communities aren't allowed to act on their own authority, who exactly is that money for?

That is the article title, not the poster’s title. We don’t change article title’s here, it helps cut down multiple posting of articles.

The title is important, because it betrays the bias in the media about Sarah Palin.

“By ANDY BARR “

Is he the son of Candy Barr?;)

Notice that they offer no counter argument to Sowell, because he is CORRECT. (Plus, they’re a bunch of Communist nitwits;)

I find nothing to argue with the good Mr. Sowell about
his column, as for Mrs. Palin giving it a reference.
I can only say, Thank you.

Trampling the boundries of lawful executive action is a hallmark of the dictator. That it’s unremarked by the
liberal democrats only proves collusion to place our
constitutional rights under despotism.

What a completely BS headline. The subject of Sowell's column wasn't Adolph Hitler, it was Barack Obama. And, the central thesis of the column was Obama's usurpation of well established American rights of due process, especially as those rights relate to commerce.
