California Senate resolution would urge boycott of Arizona
Sacramento Bee ^ | 6/24/10 | Susan Ferriss

The head of the California Senate and minority lawmakers unveiled a resolution Wednesday urging a boycott of Arizona to protest its new police immigration law.

Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, said 44 legislators have agreed to co-sponsor his Senate Concurrent Resolution 113. It urges, but does not mandate, an end to California public entities investing or doing business in Arizona.

The measure also recommends not traveling to Arizona and calls on private businesses to consider severing business ties with the state.

Arizona's new law requires police officers to ask for proof of legal status if they have "reasonable suspicion" that someone they stop could be an illegal immigrant.

The law, scheduled to take effect July 29, faces legal challenges by critics who believe it is unconstitutional.

Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, joined Latino, Asian, black and gay lawmakers outside the Capitol in support of the resolution.

"The proponents of the Arizona law don't tell you the whole story," he said. "They tell you, well, this is only directed at those who are in this country illegally. Not true."

“Cut the power and water to California.”

Soon it will not matter.
Bambie is about to give amnesty to all the wetbacks.

I guess that will make all illegal immigrant laws null and void.

Does this mean that Calimexico is boycotting the FEDs too...after all, it's essentially the same, damn, law.

Calimexico is saying that if Arizona dares to "enforce" a federal law, they will be boycotted.

Good...let the games begin.

Better to pull an Enron, raise rates and cause rolling blackouts by strategically scheduling maintenance.

Only a 20 billion deficit and the worst bond rating of the states, well Illinois might have edged it out now, are minor issues if the life of a California legislator.
Explain how this will solve the dire financial straits we are in? Donks!

Report: " Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, joined Latino, Asian, black and gay lawmakers outside the Capitol in support of the resolution."

Response: Add actors, actresses a dash of felons and one has the membership of the coalition conquering America.

Wow, things must be pretty good in CA for the Senate to consider boycotts. I must be hearing it all wrong about CA. I heard municipalities were going bankrupt and the state government was issuing promisory notes to pay its bills. I also heard that high income earners were leaving CA. Granted, these problems could be easily fixed by declaring another round of tax increases on the rich. Its good to hear CA is doing so well.

This would technically be the equivalent of a declaration of war on Arizona by California.

From the California Penal Code...

834b. (a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully
cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization
Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is
suspected of being present in the United States in violation of
federal immigration laws.
   (b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected
of being present in the United States in violation of federal
immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the
following:
   (1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen
of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent
resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time
or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of
immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not
be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and
place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding
documentation to indicate his or her legal status.
   (2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien
who is present in the United States in violation of federal
immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal
justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or
leave the United States.
   (3) Notify the Attorney General of California and the United
States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal
status and provide any additional information that may be requested
by any other public entity.
   (c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city,
county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with
jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent
or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly
prohibited.

Does this look strangely familiar?
