George W. Bush Secretly Visits Fort Hood Victims

Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura secretly visited Fort Hood last night and spent "considerable time" consoling those who were wounded in Thursday's shooting spree, Fox News has learned.
The Bushes entered and departed the sprawling military facility in secret, having told the base commander they did not want press coverage of their visit, a source told Fox News.
The couple was described as "deeply concerned" about military families on Fort Hood after Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly opened fire on soldiers and civilians, killing 13 and wounding 38.

I remember that photo....made me so darn proud. They were at the right place at the right time...and the troops loved them for it...as always.
What’s more significant is the fact that the former president and his wife didn’t wait for all the hoopla of escorts. They just traveled to the hospital after the attack without our photo entourage and spent time with our troops.
When I read a story like this, I find myself imagining things like ...
I'm in a hospital bed wounded and perhaps I know who did it and what I think is a 'why'.
President Bush appears beside my bed and after the initial shock, I feel as comfortable with him as I do with my beer buddies ... I imagine it's easy to do.
Somewhere in our convdersation or visit, I can see myself asking President Bush, "Why?"
I can also see myself telling him he's GOT to DO something about these muslims in the army, sir ... they're dangerous sir, .. Please Mr. Prersident ...DO something.
I'm sure President Bush would say something like, "Don't worry, soldier ... it's being worked on"
What does that soldier think today?
I was with you up until then. He would NOT say that. He would defend them as being patriots and how we can't let a few bad apples spoil it for everyone or some such nonsense. The Army has cast its die with the Muslims. They're here to stay, and we're a big ol' shooting gallery for them on-post whenever SJS (sudden jihad syndrome) takes over.
President Bush did the right thing by our troops when he was president as well. He also gave a lot of time to the families of those who were killed in action. Whenever he traveled as President, he would arrange to meet face to face with the families of soldiers lost in the war.
People can disagree with his politics, but he was willing to meet with those who paid the price for his orders as Commander in Chief.
The question remains ... what do ALL those warriors (for the last 10 or more years) think and feel now?
I'm LONG out of the army (1967) and there are thought patterns formed in that 17-20 year old mind that are still with me today at 62.
Hell, a lot of my socio/political thoughts and attitudes were initiated during those years.
Last night Savage articulated what I think was the first call many of us have thought or are thinking.
He said, "I pray to GOD none of those black ops guys come to Washington some night", (or words to that effect)
He was commentiong on McCristols firing and Patreus' re-hire.
I seem to recall the leftist sites furious with Bush over this. He “showed up” the one. As far as they were concerned, Bush had no business there.
IMHO, if Obama had the instincts to do the right thing, there would have been no problem with it.
Therein lies O’s big failing. His instincts are all wrong. He simply lacks true humanity.
Had Kerry been sitting in the Oval Office playing Jacks with John Edwards, the events which took place after 9/11 would have been very different, and much worse for America.
IF I AM UNDERSTANDING your reference to 09/11 properly, it would have been Gore/Lieberman [2000], right? If you are referring to everything post 2004, then that is Kerry/Edwards [2004] and boy did we escape that by the skin on our teeth as well. I never saw what the Dems saw in that blown-dried set of idiots.

3 times a many Americans have died at the hands of illegal immigrants. We now know that Laura is a left wing liberal, and it partly explains W’s horrible domestic policies.
In other words, not only was GWB a RINO, he was a p-—y-whipped RINO.

Yes, Bush was in many ways a RINO, and I strongly disagreed with his policies on many occasions. However, I have always believed he is, at his core, a genuinely decent man. The actions reported in the article in question, (which I'd seen reported previously), confirm that belief. He's a good man who was able to offer comfort to those in need, so he did. He did it without a gaggle of press in tow to make sure that everyone was fully apprised of his compassion, unlike certain other unnamed hypocrites. There is no way he could do something such as this in complete secrecy, but as best he could, he made it about those needing comfort not about him. That's a very Christian trait.
I personally think Bush saw the fort hood happening would have an impact on the troops overseas and another reason he went there...Bo failed miserably by basically waiting so long til he had his stage set. But then most don’t think much of Bo in the first place.

You’re correct; either way, we would have been up a creek w/out a paddle.
With Kerry the GOP Congress (which would have increased rather than lost it’s majority in 2006) may have opposed things like the bailout when proposed by a democrat President.
We were screwed either way. We could sure use a conservative small government President
