Haley Makes History in South Carolina Primary Runoff Victory June 22, 2010 State Rep. Nikki Haley, an Indian American woman, smashed a glass ceiling in South Carolina politics Tuesday by winning her bid to represent the Republican Party in November's gubernatorial race.
Haley is the first South Carolina woman to lead a major party ticket and will face Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen to succeed term-limited Gov. Mark Sanford.
There is already talk of a possible vice presidential campaign in 2010.As an Indian-American woman from an early primary state, she would bring a combination of diversity and conservatism that many in the GOP have been seeking.
Haley was little known just months ago, but got a crucial boost with early support from former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement.
Along the way, she weathered rumors of infidelity and questions about her religious and ethnic background.
Haley beat U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett in Tuesday's runoff, riding the backlash against the state's notoriously rough-and-tumble politics.
She picked up the support of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and popular former South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford.
Haley was a close ally of Sanford, but the 38-year-old Indian-American lawmaker distanced herself after he admitted an affair with an Argentine woman.

Sweet!
Very good news!
She’d make a fine governor for our state. Go Nikki!
If she wins in November, and becomes prominent in the Republican party nationally, the MSM and the liberals will give her the Sarah Palin treatment. Strong women such as Nikki Haley are a threat to the liberal feminists, because in their view, a good strong woman by definition must be liberal.
It’s the same concept used to denigrate conservative or Republican blacks. By definition, blacks are supposed to be liberal and loyal Democrats on that plantation.
Speaking of Sarah Palin, Haley, South Carolina and blacks—Tim Scott looks like the winnah of House Seat #1!! Palin endorsed him, too!
Well done!
In facebook lingo, I would simply just push the *like* button for this title, lol
*ping*
Our state did good tonight. Nikki will be an awesome governor.
what was the %?
Great news!
“Strong women such as Nikki Haley are a threat to the liberal feminists, because in their view, a good strong woman by definition must be liberal.’

Then I wonder why THERE ARE NO good AND strong liberal women, only destructive, weak minded and strong smelling ones. Every good, strong woman I can name is a conservative or at the least a Republican.
Sad but true. Condi Rice was insulted and dismissed too, but it was just a warm-up for Sarah. No telling what depths they’ll reach with Haley—and the MSM will totally ignore it, unless they have an opportunity to pile-on.
Is Ard going to be able to work with Haley?
65-35% for Haley.
Yeah, and we’ve seen the undesirables that 0 surrounds himself with...
and the only pretty one, his aide I think, got sent somewhere else by 0’s wife.
