What Gen. McChrystal said "crosses the line of insubordination and it crosses the line of the military code of justice. He has challenged the commander-in-chief and legally, morally, ethically and professionally he ought to be canned."

appointed a (insert rank) in the U.S. Army under the conditions indicated in this document, do accept such appointment and do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God.
U.S. Military
This is the officers oath. The enlisted oath references the POTUS
I’m afraid I have to disagree with you. It is the duty and responsibility of every member of the military to obey all orders, once they are given. They Commander or the President may ask your opinion. If that is the case, then you give your most honest assesment. But once the order is given, you carry it out to the best of your ability. If you cannot do that, then you have only once other choice.

Truman did a great job with North Korea and China... and the resulting Vietnam.
An officer swears an oath to the constitution not the President. Americans don't recognize omnipotent leaders, we recognize the rule of law.
Because you said that you thought General MacArthur "should have gone ahead and bombed the crap out of North Korea" with nuclear weapons, in violation of the express orders of President Truman. If the Army can violate the orders of the elected President -- particularly with regard to the use of nuclear weapons -- then I don't know what you have, but it's certainly not any kind of Republic.
Civilians should run the country, Military Officers should run the wars
I don't disagree with that. But when you get a conflict between the two, the civie is always in charge. That always has to be the case, even when the civilian is wrong, or else you have chaos.
An officer swears an oath to the constitution not the President.
That's wrong no matter how many times you repeat it. Every officer has sworn to obey all lawful orders by the President.
We have chaos now. And yes Officers swear an oath to the constitution, no where in the oath is the President mentioned. We don't swear fealty to individuals in the USA. Yes, they are supposed to obey all LAWFUL orders but it is their duty to disobey and question all orders they think are unlawful. McC will undoubtedly be fired, that is the right of the President, just as it was the General's right to question and criticize the President as long as he was willing to take the consequences. Judging by his wimpy assed apology I don't think he was ready to accept the consequences.
Clark was 8 months out of the military, May 2000, by the time George W. Bush took office in 2001. Clark never served under the younger Bush.
Did this silly bubble of liberal bias whine then about a senator crushing the spirit of our troops then fighting in IraQ? Did she call him a traitor? Did she question his judgement? Did she raise a fuss? Poor baby...I don't mean to be like a liberal and be cruel, but it really hurts when you are as stupid as you look...and Andrea, well, she has a problem.
I want to see that video of this monumental beeyotch when those party balloons were launched at her in 2008.
This old pockfaced witch is a joke.
