A prominent Catholic priest, praised by Pope John Paul II as "an efficacious guide to youth," Father Marcial Maciel, sexually abused not only young seminarians under his control but also abused his own children, according to a lawsuit filed today in Connecticut by a man who claims to be Maciel's son.
In an interview to be broadcast Monday evening on ABC News Nightline, the priest's son, Raul Gonzalez, 30, says he thought his father worked for the CIA or an international oil company, until he saw the priest's picture in a 1997 magazine article detailing allegations of sexual abuse.
"My mom said, 'Is that you?' and my dad said, 'No, it's not me' and my mom said, 'Yeah, it's you,'" recalled Gonzalez in the interview, conducted by Jason Berry, an investigative journalist who first reported on widespread sexual abuse by Maciel at the Legion of Christ and writes for the National Catholic Reporter.

1. Is this not a valid news story?
2. I believe the ABC web site has more traffic than DU (not that they are necessarily any better), so the odds are your charges are wrong.
3. If we’re going to hold to that purity test, what were YOU doing at DU?

This was news in February. In one of his first acts as pontiff, Pope Benedict removed this guy from public ministry and told him to dedicate his life to penance.
It’s a terrible scandal, which was discussed at length in February, and March, and April, and May.
Why is it Breaking News now? Do people have no attention spans?
ABC is kinda slow on the uptake isn’t it? The information about Fr. Maciel has been out for years. Makes me wonder if this young man is truly who he says he is, or is just looking to cash in.
We are still waiting for our parish priest or local bishop to mention the pedophile priest scandal just once during Sunday mass. It’s been several years and not one word about it. However, they have been selling off our parish properties and properties in dioceses to pay millions in sexual assault claims on children. It has come to point they we go to church only to fulfill our obligation to our Lord and totally disregard the priests. They have lost all credibility in our eyes, its sad.

I’m not Catholic and I know this is not solely a Catholic Church problem but I’m sick of hearing about these perverted bastards. One only hopes that once they are gone, this won’t happen again in the future.
