Louisiana Says Deep-Water Drilling Moratorium Would Cause "Economic Catastrophe"

Louisiana is drawing battle lines against the federal government over the six-month moratorium on deep-water drilling.

Governor Bobby Jindall and Attorney General Buddy Caldwell filed papers yesterday in support of Hornbeck Offshore Services LLC's lawsuit, saying an extended ban would turn "an environmental disaster into an economic catastrophe."

Bloomberg:

The drilling ban may cost Louisiana’s economy, “which was already weakened by Katrina and is now crippled by the Deepwater Horizon disaster,’’ almost 11,000 direct and indirect jobs in five months, Caldwell said in papers filed yesterday in federal court in New Orleans.

“Even after the catastrophic events of Sept. 11, the government only shut down the airlines for three days,’’ Caldwell said in support of Hornbeck Offshore Services LLC’s lawsuit seeking to end the moratorium.

The federal government has tried to postpone the Hornbeck lawsuit until the end of July, two months into the moratorium, according to Times-Picayune. District Court Judge Martin Feldman crossed through this proposed order in a hand-written note: "Denied. The issues presented are of national significance and to delay resolution would be irresponsible."

And that is what the Left wants - conflict and catastrophe.

There is no such thing as a bad crisis.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

Wow. Is there really a judge who doesn't think it's Zero's constitutional authority to destroy the economy sector by sector??

Re deepwater ban and economic catastrophe:

That’s nothing compared to the liberal wet dream of making energy so expensive that the US drops its carbon emissions 83%, to a per-capita consumption level that we last had in 1870. All the while, of course, opening the borders to even more potential voters, further lowering the available energy per person.

Bo/BS and his socialist minions want economic catastrophe. It’s how they are implementing the Cloward-Piven Strategy.

Do you think the sophisticated Blue Elites, in or out of the White House, give a dead rat's @$$ what happens to them (buncha illiterate Red-State hicks, y'know)?

I don't think any corporations will be willing to go against a federal ban. **IS** there any serious economy outside of oil in Louisiana? Tourism's certainly shot for this year and possibly next.

Someone suggested "A Decade a Day for LA" and it sounds like a good idea.

Has anyone heard whether rigs are moving out of the Gulf? I heard this morning that there is a possibility of eight moving out to Brazil.

Isn't that another way of saying "Play on people's fears?" Not too hopey changey.

Economic collapse, that is exactly what this administration wants. Bring us down to third world status. After all we are evil capitalists.

I’m still holding out for OilBama to try to blast it shut with a nuke.

It is the worst possible solution, the one most damaging to America, and therefore the one The One is most apt to use.

With luck he can diddle daddle long enough to have to do it in a blind panic just before a major hurricane lances into America’s soft white underbelly.

Such a nuke would:

• Replace an 18” dia pipe leaking oil with a quarter mile wide crater over bedrock shattered all the way down to the full oil deposit.
• Violate international nuclear weapon treaties.
• Flash abundant amounts of sea water into steam both by the bomb itself and the exposed hot crust/magma.
• Provide a thermal turbocharge boost to convert an ordinary hurricane into a continent crossing hypercane.
• Inundate America’s breadbasket farmland with a deluge of radioactive, oily saltwater all the way up to the Canadian border.

And as a special bonus he could then use the results to ban all oil drilling and eliminate America’s entire nuclear arsenal.

From his viewpoint, what’s not to love?

Maybe a useful analogy is someone spiking your fuel tank with 5 pounds of sugar and when the engines seizes up trying to sell you an entirely new engine. Chaos (or a “major crisis”) is needed to set the stage for ignorant people to demand a socialist or “big brother government” solution to a problem those who will run that government themselves created. This is how they have taken over governments and societies for going on a hundred years.
