Is Obama's BP Shakedown an Impeachable Offense?
The American Thinker ^ | June 21, 2010 | Raymond Richman

Posted on 06/21/2010 3:28:59 AM PDT by Scanian

As former counsel and trainer in political tactics for ACORN, President Obama used a well-known ACORN tactic, the shakedown, in getting BP to create the $20 billion escrow (slush!) fund without any law, legal controls, or binding rules to guide it on how, to whom, and how much those injured materially by the oil spill will be paid. Attorney Kenneth Feinberg, well-respected and well-known for heading the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, was appointed by the President to administer the escrow fund. BP will pay $5 billion into the fund for four years, starting in 2010.

BP announced early after the spill that it would pay all justifiable claims resulting from the disastrous oil spill. It opened 25 claims offices. As of June 15, BP approved initial payments that amounted to $63 million, expected to rise to $85 million by the end of the week, to businesses claiming $5,000 or more in damages. Why did the President insist that his own personal organization take over the job of paying claims? After all, supervising reparations is a judicial function, not an executive function. BP created its own fund and appointed its administrator and determined how it will be staffed with a view to ensuring only qualified persons, businesses, and governments would be reimbursed for its losses. Now those decisions will be made politically.

Only if we can identify the GOPers who will draft the impeachment articles; obtain the votes needed to pass it and; have enough votes in the Senate to actually impeach.

I am so sick of people yelling - IMPEACH HIM. The reality is, we aren't even close to such a thing.

Is lying before a federal grand jury or obstruction of justice an impeachable offense? As we learned a dozen years ago, when a Democrat commits impeachable offenses as president, he may get impeached, but he’ll never get convicted. Can you imagine Nancy Pelosi’s House even getting a majority to vote for articles of impeachment?

What would be the tipping point? A couple of IED’s successfully blowing up in NY, say Times Sq. or a day care center. At any rate, hundreds of Americans blown to bits, all caught on amateur video and up on Youtube...with Obama and Janet N. blaming republicans, tea partiers. The MSM will have to take off the rose colored glasses for good.

Why? They are capable of an unlimited amount of self delusion.

The reality is, we aren't even close to such a thing.

Agreed. No one is going to touch him. In many ways I don't think the elections in November will even matter. Either they will be corrupted or those elected will fail to uphold the Torch of Freedom.

0bama said something a few weeks ago at that fund raiser about not worrying regarding who controls the house/senate. He only needs a few republicans to continue his agenda. There are traitors in the GOP and 0bama knows exactly who he can count on, even after the elections.

Impeachment is used to uphold the rule of law. There is no rule of law in DC anymore, we can all see it and there is nothing to be done about it.

The more and more I listen to him and consider very carefully his words, the less I believe there is a peaceful ballot box resolution. His agenda, his tactics are not really hidden. In many ways the administration is very transparent, you just have to understand what he is saying. We think he isn't transparent because we deny the reality of what he says.

He tells us he isn't worried about November elections. We scurry about wondering conspiratorial ..."Why?"

He has already told us he has 8-10 Republicans he can count on. Many will act surprised in 2011 when things don't improve, but actually get worse.

I for one will not be surprised, nor disappointed with the GOP. Barack has already told us what is staged.

I see the doctor this week to discuss my failing mind and memory. Perhaps it isn't such a bad thing. Perhaps what I dread is a curse, is a blessing for perchance by 2012, I will not recall my lost land. A blessing for now I am motivated more than ever to speak the obvious to any who will listen, to risk what I am losing. To connect the dots, phrases and plans while I still can and hand them off to those of a better mind. Amen.

Congressman Issa in California will be the Republican who drafts the impeachment articles. If we don’t win back the Senate.....

It should be but the republicans don’t have the gonads or the numbers to impeach obama.

Your analysis belies any loss of mental faculty, EBH.

There's a reason he isn't worried. And I submit that even if he doesn't retain his 1-party-rule, he'll simply use that as an excuse to step up his tyrannical behavior.

Like the Tories of Britain, the GOP of America is a bunch of gutless wonders “In Bed With The Reds,” and those Freepers who put their faith in the Republicans rolling back Obama socialism are in for a rude awakening after the November election that is likely to sweep in a Republican majority into Congress.

I’m all for breaking the 1-party-rule of this administration (and am working hard for it), but I’m also a realist.

The Republicans learned a bitter lesson from impeaching Clinton. They will never do it again.

Everyone is afraid of the community activists (terrorists).

“It should be but the republicans don’t have the gonads or the numbers to impeach obama.”

I hope the Republicans understand that the next election is their last chance to “get their minds right.” The American People have already thrown the Democrat Party under the bus, and if the GOP doesn’t get their act together pretty darn soon, they go under the bus too.

These are revolutionary times. The time has come for the Republican Party to LEAD...or FOLLOW...or get the heck out of the WAY!

Yes.

He’s acting outside the law to make a quasi legal slush fund for his buddies to administer.

A good judge won’t give a rats ass what BP and Obama agree is fair and the work of the slush fund will be thrown out of court.

Great minds think alike. Once again I agree with you. The Republicans just recently slapped down one of their own for speaking truth to the Democrats. I expect even if the GOP does win a majority in November, they will continue to act like the minority and do nothing effective to roll back socialism.

The good news is that a radicalized patriotic middle class will do a game change. I don’t have to tell you what the game is, since we do think alike.

Actually, I'm more concerned that the democrats may win in November by running on a platform of impeaching Obama...

That gets on my nerves too.

The people hollering that need to think back to what a joke Bubba’s impeachment became when the numbers were much more in the GOP’s favor.

Even if the GOP took over both houses of Congress, the McLame’s and Miss Lindsey’s would throw in a monkey wrench.
An impeachment would demonstrate such a lack of “comity,” you know.
