Enraged to engaged: Tea party backers explain why (I am featured in this story!)

YUCCA VALLEY, Calif. – Bill Warner is hardly a naive man. He ran his own engineering firm for three decades, and sold the assets just before the economy tanked. He built his dream home on a majestic hill abutting a national park, back when the housing market was steady. While some neighbors have since been foreclosed upon, Warner is resurfacing his flagstone deck.

And so he understands, quite clearly, that in the world of politics, his little group — officially, the Lincoln Club of the Morongo Basin — is but a molecule in the figurative drop in the bucket of power and influence.

Its stated purpose is "to promote, educate and advance conservative principles of fiscal responsibility, small limited government, free enterprise, the rule of law, private property rights, and the preservation and protection of individual liberty." The organization has, to date, some 25 members and has raised $10,000.

Moveon.org or FreedomWorks it isn't. But to Warner, it's no less substantial.

"It's our way of doing what we can do," he says.

I met this writer at the Tea Party in Searchlight. She was very nice and I trusted her to get it right about who we are. And I think she did! I'm very happy with how this turned out. See..Not all journalists are liberal hacks!!!

She did a good job. It’s hard to believe that Searchlight was in March. I can hardly get a handle on how fast things are moving...time included. Anyway..well done Lady.

spent like a drunken sailor. He reached across the aisle. We weren't happy with the taxes. We weren't happy with his policy on illegal immigration. So, by the time he left, he was not very popular among conservatives. Because he was not conservative

My thoughts exactly.

When folks around town ask her whom she plans to support in that all-important Senate primary on Aug. 24, she first explains that her views are her own (her women’s club doesn’t endorse candidates) and then she tells them, in all likelihood, McCain’s more conservative opponent, J.D. Hayworth.

“I want McCain to lose for the symbolism,” says Angius. “He’s like the ring on the merry-go-round. If we can get that, the tea parties have won.”

Great stories about “ordinary Americans doing extraordinary things”!
Congrats on being a big part of this excellent, well-written piece!

It was a joy to read a factual piece on this subject without the usual leftist slant and spin. Kudos to the journalist.

and she talks about a feeling that something is just "wrong."

You and me both. Nero fiddled and Obama played golf. The only difference is that Nero was probably better at fiddling.

WTG, Hildy! Thanks for all you’re doing out there.

The story was unbelievably straight shooting, a new tack in journalism.

Excellent article. I haven’t seen too many that were unbiased like this one. I think this is an example of a nearly lost art: true journalism, where the author and his/her opinions are not the main focus, with the story just serving as a canvas.

They want, quite simply, to keep acting in their own way on the anger they feel. To do ... what they can do.

Ah Pauline, you toiled and toiled in your journalistic whorehouse and labored to finish with this pathetic little close?

Here's a hint, sweety: Conservatives don't have "anger issues" that can be collectively exploited against them to marginalize their legitimacy.

Really. Honest.

Rather, conservatives - stay with me here, Pauline - simply get angry. Personally. Over issues they have an opinion on. A personal opinion. That they defend personally. Because they understand it.

So while you think you've created some sort of hit piece, in actuality you've only been smelling your own armits again, Pauline. Because your attempt at an insult, at some sort of socio-political setup blame label for whatever might "happen," simply doesn't play in Peoria. In fact, all you've really done is call the sky blue while plotting to somehow hold that against everyone in the future.

[Sigh.]

And for what? After all, liberals don't need your collectivist labelling - they'll already crawl, wagging their asses, to any controlling hand with a treat in it. So who are you writing for?

Ah yes - your deranged Leftist masters, of course. I forgot.

Here's a treat, Pauline. Good girl.
