Laura Wojcik's little girl, Elizabeth, is due Saturday. So imagine her surprise when she learned she'd have to find another doctor for the delivery and find one in just one day.

"I was pretty upset because I love going here and everything. They're good doctors, and then I had to change," said Wojcik.

A doctor from the Norwich OB-GYN Group will be on call this weekend, but inside the office, the waiting room is empty, and there are no doctors in the exam rooms. The office stopped taking patients Thursday when it decided it could no longer meet the financial demands of running the practice.

"We've had a reduction in reimbursement from the state-funded insurances, because the budget situation, things had slowed down, so April, May were very slow, and June continued to be slow," said Bernadette Grecki, the practice administrator.

Add to that the payments from the largest state-funded insurance provider wouldn't be arriving till July, and the office says it had no choice but to close.

"It was too much for the doctor. He realized he couldn't keep funding the practice," said Grecki.

The group says it is working with other OB-GYN's in the area to accommodate patients, and the files of pregnant patients who are at 32 weeks or more have already been transferred to Backus Hospital, so doctors will be prepared when the women go into labor.

“It’s the Leftist’s mindset. THEY deserve anything and everything that anyone else has, otherwise life isn’t fair. Unbelievable!”

Yes. This is the attitude. Where do they think all the drugs, devices, procedures, diagnostic tests etc. came from? How do they think people developed the knowledge and skills to be physicians? You can’t reason with people who think like this because they will never concede to your argument, no matter how valid and clearly stated.

So how is he ever going to survive if he's not raking in over $400K a year anymore?

The green-eyed monster is so unbecoming. Seriously, why do you even come here? To troll? It's obvious you are neither conservative nor libertarian.

So you think they make $400k a year and that's too meager for their lifestyle these days so they're quiting, is that it?

Wow... I expected more from you. That was completely clueless with a little tinge of class envy thrown in.

Sorry, but you’ve got it wrong. Some docs do make this much, some more. Most don’t. And, if you break it down into compensation per hour worked you’d be quite surprised.

Wonder how much malpractice insurance had to do with the decision to close.

I know, let's ask John Edwards!

You could have at least done the rest of us a favor, and beat him senseless until he NEEDED a doctor.

What job requires you to wake up at night from your sleep to solve a health problem?

EMTs and Paramedics - but Obamacare is going to destroy that segment of health-care the same way.

Given that CT went 61% anti American in 2008 I will continue to generalize, as is appropriate.

I argued with my hippie brother about compensation for Doctors. His attitude was disgusting. If the Doctor is older and has repaid his Medical School loans, his mortgage and his kids higher education, why shouldn't he take a cut in pay?

They don't realize that there comes a point where an older doctor decides to retire and enjoy his remaining years. Cut reimbursements and raise his hassles, and that point comes sooner.

Didn’t Obama promise that if we like our doctor, we can keep him?

There must be some lab coats left lying around in the WH from the big Obamacare photo-op. Maybe Zippy could put one on and lend a hand.

So, Willie my boy, how many employees do you have?

In other words, how many jobs have YOU created for other people?

Of are you content to collect your union payola from a job somebody else created for you?

Interesting thing about the healthcare model, the doctor’s income could be doubled and it wouldn’t effect the total healthcare cost by even 1%.

My doc who I love told me she would leave if health care went through. She is no way near retiring, she’s very young. Her husband is also a doc and will try to make a go of it. She says the paperwork alone will drive many offices to quit.
