ORLANDO -- Is it too soon to name a road after President Barack Obama? A new road being built through Orlando will have his name.
Roads in Orlando honor some of our greatest presidents, from Washington to Jefferson and now Obama.
On Friday, Orlando leaders made President Barack Obama Parkway the first road under construction in the nation named after our 44th president, and surely one of the few in history to be named after a sitting president in his first term.
"I think its great if people want to support their presidential candidate, but I think it's a little soon," said Orlando resident Karey Graham.
"You don't have to be dead to be honored," said Charles Sledge from Orlando. We need to honor people while they are living."
City leaders actually voted on the name shortly after the groundbreaking election, when they decided they wanted to break ground on a north-south connection from Conroy Road to Old Winter Garden Road.
While some might find the name controversial, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said the benefits of the road are undeniable.
"Building these reliever roads is important for people being able to get to work or home and being able to save 10 minutes they can spend with their families. In this particular area John Young (Parkway), Kirkman (Road), I-4 always have congestion," Dyer said.
With the lack of north-south roads, people turn to these residential neighborhoods, sometimes causing even more problems. Two hundred jobs will be created to build the first $10.5 million phase of the road, which will connect with Metrowest Boulevard.
As for the timetable on the rest of the construction, and what will spring up around the new road, it's still about as uncertain as the legacy the Obama Administration will leave behind.
However, Commissioner Samuel Ings, who came up with the name for the road, knows what he'd like to see.
"One of my dreams would be when we get ready to cut the ribbon that our president, presidential limo and seal would be the first to travel along Presidential Barack Obama Parkway," Ings said.
So far Obama hasn't been contacted.
A sewage treatment plant would have been more appropiate to “honor” Barry H. After all, he tries to launder and spin a huge pile of $hit into something he thinks us astroturfing gun and god clingers will see as “hope and change”.
Gotta have some place for these.
Will all the people he threw under the bus be on that roadside also?
What’s the little blue logo on the sign? An erupting oil well?
Looks like the new blue state symbol for Liberals...like a blue plunger to keep all of their shit down from overflowing.
I predict most residents will soon be referring to it as: “Go up one block and turn left on Obongo....”
Why? The Road To Hell Obama Highway is what I would name it.
I think central Floridians may have just acquired a new place to dispose of their old tires, car batteries, and broken appliances.
Post Turtle Avenue
Liars Place
Dewycheatum Street
Havetmy Way
Loser Lane
One question: Is the Obama parkway a toll road?
Obviously a dead end street.
Based on potential. LOL. We are living in a parallel universe.

I think naming all roads that dead end at a land fills or volcanes could be named after Obama since he trashed our constitution and lead this country into hell......
What is that logo on the sign?
An Obama “O” with a gushing oil rig in the middle?
Will they nickname it the “Hershey Highway”????
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
Tune up your GPS. That's Martin Luther King Boulevard, Anytown, USA.
