Washington (CNN) - The Republican who wants to be the next governor of California has a message for the state's Latinos: "Meg Whitman es una candidata diferente."
Translation: "Meg Whitman is a different kind of candidate."
The former eBay CEO released two Spanish-language television ads as part of a calculated courting of the state's 13.5 million+ Hispanics.
"She is the Republican who opposes the Arizona law " an announcer says in one of the ads.
Many Latinos have vented anger at Arizona's passing of the nation's toughest immigration law. It requires law enforcement agents to "determine the immigration status" of anyone under "reasonable suspicion" of being an illegal alien. Essentially, the law provides police with the power and responsibility that is normally accorded only to federal immigration authorities.
Arizona's law was pressed by state Republicans and signed by GOP Gov. Jan Brewer. Polls show the law has garnered strong support in some quarters.
But Republicans could face trouble at the ballot box following a national outcry from Latinos.
It's likely that Whitman wants to inoculate her candidacy from any possible anger aimed at the GOP.

I figure the road to salvation for CA leads via defaults that can’t be denied. We will get there faster with Brown. Whitman just wants to be the manager and tax collector for a welfare state. I won’t vote for her.
Meg Whitman es una candidata RINO
The election of this dumb witch is going nowhere.
Yeah, lets all vote for Governor Moonbeam. That'll teach Whitman and the GOP a lesson. Obviously since she is a billionaire she only wants to spend the next four years of her life being governor to help the unions and the people on welfare. /S
Vichy Republican scum.
Vote for Chelene Nightingale for governor.
lol are all politicians whores.
From the Los Angeles Times: 50% of registered voters surveyed said they support the law, which compels police to check the immigration status of those they suspect are in the country illegally, while 43% oppose it Strong majorities of white voters and those over 50 support the Arizona law, while Latinos and those under 30 are heavily opposed.
The 7% gap is well outside the margin of error.
So naturally the GOP nominee goes with the leftist minority on this. They don’t call it the “stupid party” for nothing.
Ping!
Conservatives are supposed to vote for her because she will turn California into a third world hellhole a little slower than Moonbeam Brown?
Exactly. We're counting on Whitman to fight a sort of rear guard action so we Americans have time to flee.
With Brown, we'll only have time to pack a toothbrush before we're put on the trains to the camps.
She sent out literature that she was against illegal immigration (pretty hardcore, too) before the primary.
Should never vote for GOP who support Illegal Aliens over American Citizens.
Whitman should be going after AMERICAN voters. Pandering to one group is a sure loser...and a wasted conservative vote.
Not a dime, not a thin dime to this anti-American sellout. And no money to the Republican dandyocracy that is backing her, either.
That’s it Meg! Be a GOOD McCain Republican and throw US citizens under the bus in favor of invading hordes of 3rd world criminals!
THIS is what she’s appealing to:

Exactly!
“When Meg Whitman steps down from her post as eBay chief executive at the end of the month, another prominent position awaits her: co-chair of John McCain’s presidential campaign.

The presumed Republican nominee said Friday that he has asked Whitman to play a “lead role” in the campaign, helping to lead fund-raising, traveling the country on McCain’s behalf, and assisting with policy development.
Whitman said in a statement that she was “honored” to be selected. “ [snip]
I will NOT vote for this woman.
