Illegal bushmeat 'rife in Europe'
BBC ^ | June 17t h 2010 | Mark Kinver

About 270 tonnes of illegal bushmeat could be passing through one of Europe's busiest airports each year, the first study of its kind estimates.

A team of researchers says the illicit trade could pose a risk to human or animal health and increase the demand for meat from threatened species.

The figure is based on seizures from searches carried out over 17 days at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.

The findings appear in the journal Conservation Letters.

A team of researchers from France, Cambodia and the UK said it was the "first systematic study of the scale and nature of this international trade".

"We estimate that about five tonnes of bushmeat per week is smuggled in personal baggage through Paris Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport," they wrote.

During the 17-day study, a total of 134 passengers arriving on 29 flights from 14 African nations were searched.

Nine people were found to be carrying bushmeat, which had a combined mass of 188kg.

Do people actually eat this?

"A 4kg monkey will cost around 100 euros (£84), compared with just five euros in Cameroon," he said.

Yes, the natives of various African hellholes, now living in Europe, want the food they were used to back in the aforementioned hellhole. There's a bushmeat market in the US, too - we have many immigrants from horrible places here.

Yes, exactly right.
This is yet another flashing indicator of how far Europe has been overrun with immigrants.

I guess people have forgotten that AIDS/HIV has been
traced back to savages eating chimpanzee meat. Even
Wiki’ has it on their site.

Cameroon....that's where I've always said the UN should relocate it's headquarters to; bonus is that the cost of living there must also be a helluva lot cheaper than Manhattan.

(...and it's probably prettier than that sh*thole part of New York)

The Eastside is not that bad they have lots of wonderful rent controlled apartments filled with very wealthy people.

I wish I could have got in on that scam.

Wifey loves to watch “Cash Cab”, but I always get distracted looking out the window as they cruise the island; amazed that anybody in their right mind could live there (and I was born there!).....talk about a broken down infrastructure.

...talk about a broken down infrastructure.

It all begins with the heart; that is — more accurately — with the lack of one.

Europe spent a thousand years fighting back the jungle. Now they don't even care that the jungle is back at their doorstep. Go ahead, brits enjoy your monkey meat.

Where are the eco-nuts and animal-lovers complaining about these savages eating these defenseless, poor jungle occupants (the animals being eaten, that is)? Is nobama having bushmeat served in the white house? How soon will it be until the dollar menu has some rare gibbon burger or anteater shake????? Enquiring minds want to know. We truly in bizzarro world.
