Members of Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church reportedly will be in Johnson City on Monday to picket near the memorial service for Airman Benjamin D. White, an Erwin resident who died last week in Afghanistan.
"Military funerals have become pagan orgies of idolatrous blasphemy where they pray to the dunghill gods of Sodom and play taps to a fallen fool," states a Westboro flier forwarded to media outlets by the Unicoi County Sheriff's Office.
The flier goes on to say that the "message will be preached in respectful, lawful proximity" to White's memorial service at Grace Fellowship Church on South Greenwood Drive at 6:15 p.m. Monday.

They have been doing this for years.
They need to get a life. It is very disturbing and they do it for attention and shock value.
But at this point it like watching a one trick pony.
East Tennessee ping!
That's the singular purpose of this traveling leftist street-theater.
Erwin, TN isn’t to far from Phelps’ old friend Al Gore’s new mansion, isn’t it? Maybe Fred can stop by and shoot the breeze with Al.
They showed up here and if you can get lots of publicity and get counter protestors at the sight, they won’t even show up. Or they may only stick around for a few minutes. Just remember, don’t touch them. That is how they make their money. SUE SUE SUE
I seriously wonder why no one has simply “lost control of their car” and plowed them down. Would any jury convict them?
I’m hoping that between now and the time of the service that some type of counter-protest can be organized!
Given the Westboro folks past history, I won’t be surprised when a dark alley day of reckoning happens.
I wonder how much oil we could skim by trolling Westboro accolytes behind an oil skimmer ship? They certainly absorb bullsh@t well enough. They might actually be worth something to someone in that regard.
A friend of mine was at something they were protesting, and he said it seemed like their heart wasn't really in it. It's basically a cult consisting of Fred and his extended family, and Fred's too old to travel much these days. In the meantime, they go through the motions to keep the old man happy. When he dies, though, look for these protests to stop.
When Fred Phelps dies and goes to hell, I hope his casket bobs to the surface of the urine soaked mud.
Of course they are a plague to society. They are Democrat Lawyers who have a family cult they use to defame Christians and those opposes to homosexuality.
I don't imagine they'll take too kindly to fools from Westlake.
OOPPS!!! “Westboro” not “Westlake”. My fault. sorry.
Texas law is protests are only allowed 1 hour before and 1 hour after the funeral, procession to the cemetery and cemetery service 1000 feet away I believe with a permit to protest at each place. The last one I attended in Texas , you couldn’t see or hear this satanist band of blithering idiots due the fine work and blocking forces of the veterans groups that include but were not limited to the patriot riders, spec ops association etc . Key was the massive number of DPS and local and county LEO’s an FLEAS that were so thick around this trash I couldn’t have hit one of em if I had tried. Their BS is only allowed due the freedoms earned FOR THEM by this fallen hero and others they disrespect while looking for lawsuit profits for their so called church.
America really sucks when such is tolerated. Surprised this trash is still wasting air on this earth.
Hell awaits these reprobates from the Westboro hate club.
Doom on em.........
