A single pistol round to the medulla oblongata via the foramen magnum is far more humane.

Instant relaxation.

Ahhh...the doctrine of blood atonement lives in Utah.

Sad thing is Gardner believes that this will pay for his sins. That his own blood must be shed so he can ‘progress’ in the afterlife.

We wouldn't want the condemned to endanger his health, would we?

What about the alcohol swab before inserting the injection needles?

What about the alcohol swab before inserting the injection needles?

In "Fear No Evil," Natan Shironsky wrote about a common joke among political prisoners in the Soviet Gulags.

If you antagonized the interogators, they would deny you the iodine swab on your forehead before your execution by gun shot.

Why would denial of the iodine swab concern you?

The highly efficient Soviet Union always applied iodine to the the condemned prisoner's head to prevent infection.

What?! No URL for the live video web feed?!?! This is 2010, they need to expand the “viewing room” to at least the whole state of Utah!

"I thought they used 30-06."

I thought so, too - but the article said .30-30, unless the author didn't understand gun-speak and mis-interpreted what he was told.

What I’ve been able to find out on the internet is that they may well have used the venerable Winchester 94 in 30-30, a very thoughtful, historic touch.

They wouldn’t want to send someone to Hell with an infection.
