Sarah Palin: Marijuana is a 'minimal problem'
Politico ^ | 6/17/10 | Andy Barr

Posted on 06/17/2010 7:52:51 AM PDT by pissant

Former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin said Wednesday night that law enforcement should not focus its energy on the “minimal problem” of marijuana.

Palin made the comment during an appearance on the Fox Business Network with Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).

The libertarian Paul said enforcing marijuana restrictions specifically and war on drugs more generally is a “useless battle,” a point Palin somewhat agreed with though she was clear that she does not support legalization.

"If we're talking about pot, I'm not for the legalization of pot,” Palin said. “I think that would just encourage our young people to think that it was OK to go ahead and use it.”

“However I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts,” Palin added. “If somebody's gonna to smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society.”

And the admonishments to be “sober” or “sober-minded” are too plentiful for me to list here.

“God wants us to smoke pot” isn’t going to fly.

And if they don’t get stoned on pot, they’ll get stoned on alcohol, what are you going to do, ban alcohol?

Note that Gov Palin didn't say potheads aren't a problem, just like drunks are still a problem (or is it that they have a problem with stills). It is just on the national To-Do list rounding up the stoned dudes on skateboards ranks way down the list when compared to Terrorists, 10% unemployment, 100% Debt/GDP ratio, collapse of city and state governments, North Korea's nukes, Pakistan's nukes, Iran's nukes, Israel using their nukes to eliminate the problem of Iran's nukes, and the little issue of oil oil everywhere and not a drop of gas. Admittedly it does rank above funding NPR, PBS and the NEA. Perhaps we should just issue all the liberals a large pot ration and then run the country while they are out looking for Doritos.

I don’t see any more of a threat from pot than I do from alcohol or cigarettes.

I think alcohol and cigarettes are worse than pot.

Cigarette smokers generally smoke all day every day for years, putting them at risk of a whole host of illnesses.

People who get drunk are an abusive, violent dangerous lot who put everyone around them at risk.

The worst people who get high will do is eat all your cereal and make you do the driving because going that fast freaks them out.

You know, you'd probably get your point across a lot better if only you spelled "Genesis" correctly.

Just sayin'

My position on it is that the government should have no say in it, but the people should have the internal fortitude to control their own indulgences and behaviors.

“Does Palin actually think law enforcement efforts in the war on drugs is focused on arresting people with a joint in their living rooms?”

Law enforcement efforts have effected people who never smoked pot in their lives.

Like a dead 7 year old.

Maybe she was GOING to smoke pot some day eh?

Thanks for the post with all the links.

“Social conservatives” need to learn that if they are truly small, limited government conservatives, like most of us, that there are ALSO limits on how far we can go to get people to not do dumb and stupid things to themselves.

I imagine some of them are the same people who became upset when they learned, from Justice Scalia’s speeches that as much as he opposes the Roe v Wade decision, he also does NOT see that the Constitution REQUIRES that abortion MUST BE illegal. His position is a pure, small government, originalist position - the Constitution is an agnostic on many “moral” positions.

I've said the same thing about cigarettes. At some point these gubmint morons are going to make them illegal, and then we will have ten year old boys selling them on the corner and getting shot over it.

Making something illegal doesn't mean people will stop doing it, it just means more people will go to jail and/or get killed.

Once again BobJ shows his lack of facts.....many a times a cop has been around a house, smell pot coming from the house and knock on the door to find out if somebody has some weed...it happens alot....sorry but other than the Hunter fan and the Huckabee supporter you are out numbered on your Palin bashing once again
