Rossi Gains Ground on Murray in New Poll; Didier Hurts Rossi’s Chances.

GOP challenger Dino Rossi has gained ground on incumbent U.S. Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) over the past six weeks according to the latest Elway poll.

According to an earlier Elway poll, Rossi trailed Murray 34 percent to 51 percent at the beginning of May, but now trails by just 7 points—40 percent to 47 percent.

The poll also indicated that the upcoming race and election should be intensely partisan, with 89 percent of Democrats supporting Murray and 84 percent of Republicans supporting Rossi.

According to the poll, “Had this been a survey of just partisans, Murray would have had a 20 point lead (54 percent to 34 percent) because of the larger number of Democrats. But this is Washington, where Independents decide statewide elections because neither party on its own can elect anyone.”

Rossi leads in independent support 45 percent to 32 percent, but he’ll need to win a much greater margin of that vote to pull off a win.

Undecided voters, Independents and a huge voter turnout, then, are the keys to Rossi’s potential success.

Well, it's Washington State.....chances of dumping "the Hag" are looking dim; unfortunately. But, she could make a big campaign gaffe between now and November 2. Anything can happen; look at the SC Dem Senate Primary. LOL!

If Didier can win, I prefer him as well.

If he can’t win, this will just be another case of conservatives working very hard to make sure we don’t win any Senate seats.

the [Didier-led] insurgent sect of the Republican party is subtracting from the energy Rossi needs to generate in order to get additional voter turnout.

Pure unadulterated BS.

I like Rossi but much prefer Didier.

However, since I left WA a few years ago, I’ll watch this one from the sidelines and pray for Murray to be shown the door.

IIRC, Didier and Rossi are opponents in the Republican primary.

The only way Didier "hurts Rossi's chances" is if he runs as an independent/3rd party candidate in the general election.

In this race, Rossi, Didier, or Akers are the conservatives in the race. Patty Murray is the MOST LIBERAL Senator (per ACU ratings) who’s got more than 1 year in the Senate.

More liberal than Feinstein.

More liberal than Kerry.

More liberal than Obama (when he was in the Senate).

More liberal than Feingold.

Even more liberal than the only serving socialist, Bernie Sanders.

FReepers in other States love to talk about their POS liberal Senators, but they’re all in second place; we’ve got number ONE. Most liberal Senator - Patty Murray (I wonder if it’s coincidence that she’s also consistently rated the dumbest?).

There isn’t ANYONE more liberal than Patty Murray. Rossi, Didier, or Akers are all light-years beyond Murray, and all would be a massive step-up over Murray. Rossi, Didier, and Akers are all conservative candidates.

I like Akers, personally but will whole-heartedly get behind any of them that become the GOP nominee. I hope anyone in Washington who is to the right of Obama, Reid, or Pelosi (all of whom have higher ACU ratings than Patty Murray) will do the same.

This is one of those times you go with the one who has the best chance of getting rid of the opposition. Rossi has been robbed before so his troops will be out in force.

I agree, even though I think Akers would be a better Senator (gee, a Senator who’s actually built and run companies over the last few decades? Imagine that!) I’ll gladly support and call and doorbell for any of them.
