Obama squandered his Oval Office moment (Cynthia Tucker reviews the speech)

Obama could have called for a “moon shot” tonight to make a transition from fossil fuels to cleaner energy, and he failed to do that. He made his first-ever speech in the Oval Office, and he had all three networks at the 8 p.m. slot, and he didn’t make good use of it.

The speech was flat and uninspiring. He recited a litany of the things the administration has done to try to bring the spill under control, but it was a rehash of things the public has already heard. Yes, he’s going to make BP pay. That’s good — as far as it goes. But he didn’t use the moment to assert a resolute sense of command.

Nor did he use it to call on Americans to make the sacrifices that will be necessary to make the transition from petroleum to cleaner fuels. Yes, he said a little about it. But he didn’t even endorse the energy bill currently languishing in the Senate.

The president has wasted a crisis.

The president has wasted a crisis.

From the time I grew up until a year or so ago, a crisis was a thing to avoid if possible and solve as soon as possible. That world has been turned upside down.

Now, in progressive logic, a crisis is a good thing, something to be embraced and encouraged. It lets you do things far too unpopular or even unconstitutional to be done in normal times of sanity.

They've run this 'crisis' scam on us quite a few times, global warming, the bailouts and stimulus plans are recent examples. What bothers me most is how deftly and daftly they blame others for the mischief they do and get away with it. Sad that it works so well.

You see ? that IS the point, there is none, and that's the goal, no real alternative, no industrial production, no economic activity, no cars, no truck to move people and goods around, no home heating fuel, no plastics, less modern conveniences, that IS their end game.

By looking at how Obama , the left, and the envirowackos have reacted to the oil spill, they could give a rats a$$ about the environment, it's all about the money for them, and a agenda to meet a end game for them, to bring the United States of America to 3rd world status.

Man, that was a ripe opportunity to feed the gullible one a piece of false science. Something like GE having a food replicator or food synthesizer in the laboratory - just as good as a transportation device because it saves all those trucking miles for moving food from place of production to place of preparation and consumption. The fast food companies are aghast, because it will eat into their business, imagine being able to "replicate" a Big Mac without having to drive to McDonald's, and you get the picture.

Of course, that's not the future of communist tyrants like Obama who will still be flying their jets and riding around in bullet-proof limousines and eating lobster and caviar.
