Obama squandered his Oval Office moment (Cynthia Tucker reviews the speech)
Atlanta Journal Constitution ^ | June 15, 2010 | Cynthia Tucker

Posted on 06/16/2010 12:55:53 AM PDT by tlb

Obama could have called for a “moon shot” tonight to make a transition from fossil fuels to cleaner energy, and he failed to do that. He made his first-ever speech in the Oval Office, and he had all three networks at the 8 p.m. slot, and he didn’t make good use of it.

The speech was flat and uninspiring. He recited a litany of the things the administration has done to try to bring the spill under control, but it was a rehash of things the public has already heard. Yes, he’s going to make BP pay. That’s good — as far as it goes. But he didn’t use the moment to assert a resolute sense of command.

Nor did he use it to call on Americans to make the sacrifices that will be necessary to make the transition from petroleum to cleaner fuels. Yes, he said a little about it. But he didn’t even endorse the energy bill currently languishing in the Senate.

The president has wasted a crisis.

Tucker is as vain as obamination. It must have almost killed her that he didn’t follow HER game plan now that she’s a big DC insider.

....and what 'cleaner fuels' would those be? Pixie dust? There is no alternative to petroleum, only wishful thinking at this point.

Why sacrifice anything?

Remove the capital gains tax
Swat the gadfly environmental lawyers
Build 50 new nuclear plants
Transition to electric cars for personal transportation
Use oil resources for trains, planes, ships and trucking

Guess I’ll drag my perpetual motion machine out of the closet, dust it off and see if I can get a billion dollar grant.

Just wave the wand and make it so...

$$$$$

Since leftists believe in magical thinking, they are constantly angry when their wishes do not come true.

Then they look around for who to blame for their anger and focus on conservatives - (who happen to be realistic rational thinkers).

That is what happens when you only have ideals/philosophy and no real ideas about anything. He doesn’t know a great deal of take pride in America thus he can’t solve any sort of crisis. He is a community organizer which essentially mean he can whip up trouble but the true test of a leader is being able to solve problems. I truly felt more sympathy for the gulf coast last night than since this whole thing began. I thought “you guys are really out there alone”. I felt bad for the gulf when this happened but got a “truly sick” feeling during the speech last night.

These are people of the same mind-set as those who pushed plastic bags on us 20 years ago.

Now, they won't exactly admit the error of their ways, but they (or their descendents) have come to oppose plastic bags and are getting local governments to ban them.

So they push the Nation into green, as in nuclear, etc. Twenty years or so they will be claiming it is bad. [They always need a villain, a cause.] It will be another costly oops, sorry about that that the rest of us will have to pay for.

I heard a lot of narcissistic magical thinking expressed in Obama’s speech.

I was struck that O doesn’t know any “heavyweights” to call upon so he appoints a commission. GWB had a whole rolodex of people who are giants in doing things. Obama who has done nothing in his life, who has been coddled and protected and allowed not to be a real man knows no real men. He knows hacks and marxists but nobody with the stature to go down to the Gulf, take over and get things done.

All he can do is call on rhetoric and trial lawyers and ocmmissions. He is a light weight.

This is the influence of Islamic upbringing layered with Marxist fine tuning.

The result is what you see.

Anti-American in every aspect, doesn’t care for a “United States”.

America just cannot keep pretending he was ever eligible to be POTUS.

He failed to qualify but millions thought if they looked the other way and kept silent nobody would notice, we would get used to it, we were making history.

Yes, Obama has definitely made history.

Look at the video of Olberrman and Matthews last evening after the speech. They were apoplectic at The One.

The One is losing the MSM. The One is losing the comedians. The One is losing the Liberals.

Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Howard Fineman react to President Obama's Oval Office Address on the oil spill. Here are the highlights of what the trio said: Olbermann: "It was a great speech if you were on another planet for the last 57 days." Matthews compared Obama to Carter. Olbermann: "Nothing specific at all was said." Matthews: "No direction." Howard Fineman: "He wasn't specific enough."

Obama can't lean left enough for them, right enough for us and he can't even do center for the fence riding, splintered butt doodlers.

He has no intention of ever leaning right except a few right fakes to keep the idiot suburbanites on board. Mostly though he can count on the Media to bash republicans to keep those idiots lined up. He needs to destroy the economy and middle class before they wake up and still have enough votes left. I personally think he'll win that race easily.

And these same disillusioned leftists hated President Bush because, in their magical world, he also had the power to ‘do’ whatever he wanted to do. They never acknowledged that W respected the law, our Constitution, and the limits of his executive authority.
