Mr. Williams of Transocean spelled it out directly in his interview with 60 Min. The BP execs (customer) told Transocean execs and engineers (contractor) to do it BP’s way because the well was already way behind on delivery and costing BP lots of money per hour it was not producing. I saw somewhere that BP has had over 8000 violations logged in the same time that Exxon has received only four.
It is becoming apparent that BP spent its political payoffs wisely at the time but with these recent photos and the video recording of the meetings on April 24th, those payoffs are going to be the “plumbers” scenario for this administration and quite possibly the entire political establishment.
What is becoming more apparent is the Obama adminstration, the MSM, and the political progressives are about to take an enormous pounding from the public. They did nothing for the first eight days and even refused help during that time. Then when the oil hits the barrier islands, their scene is set to make it a political case to take control of the oil industries operating in this country.
They can’t sell Cap & Trade to the public so they need a “crisis” to scare them into it. Now that it looks like this attempt to manage a crisis to their political ends is imploding, look for despiration to set in. It will be a very bumpy ride to November and the inductions of the new Congress and Senate in January.
This administration knew this was coming because several weeks out all of a sudden Buffet invest heavily in oil dispersants and BP execs started to sell rather large portions of their stock. Obviously as a hedge against what they were coming to realize this well had some real problems that have never been seen before.
Once the current BOP was in place and then faced with the realization that the pressures from the gas was way over safe limits, they were stuck. There was no way to replace it and the snowball was rolling towards an uncontrollable conclusion. Their efforts to bleed off as much pressure as possible was in vain.
At these enormous pressures would it have mattered much? It may have just delayed the inevitable. Piercing that deep well was the mistake. I truly believe no one had any idea about what they would find at those depths, but to SouthDixie's point in post 39 greed was indeed the motivator.
