The Obama Administration handed out more than $400 million in awards to federal employees last year, up by more than $80 million from the prior year, according to new government data.

The biggest winners were air traffic controllers and top managers in Washington, a review of fiscal year 2009 salary reports from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management showed.

OPM’s data, obtained by the Asbury Park Press through a freedom of information request, account for 1.3 million employees, or about 65 percent of the federal civilian work force.

I would suggest you look into the “big fat pension”, COLA’s, and lifetime health insurance before opening your trap. The pension for feds (not unionized gov emp) is 30% of avg high 3 yrs salary, + social security, + whatever they have contributed to their Thrift Savings Plan. COLA last year for workers: 1.5%, for retiree's 0 COLA (probably same for this year). Health for life cost approx $400 per month and insurance usually only pays 80% of services.

You wouldn't have lasted 20 minutes walking around outside the USPS Brentwood facility at 2 AM Fur Shur.

Most all military facilities in the DC region are well set back from roads, have plenty of onsite parking, have guard services all over the place, AND, best of all, are encased in chainlink fences of 12 to 16 ft in height.

That's for the ones in the suburbs where it's safe.

Oh - in that case...never mind. It’s great news...I’m so pleased the government is using our funds this way, especially without oversight from the “pay czar.” Yes - more redistribution of our money to the federal workers. In fact, maybe we could give bonuses to those who don’t watch porn on the job...as a reward for doing the right thing.

“...$400 million is a tiny amount. Federal employees’ award
amounts are a much smaller percentage of their benefit outlays
than anything you find in the private sector...”
-
The private sector has frozen salaries.
The private sector has eliminated bonuses.
The private sector has layed off workers.
I suspect you work for my broke-ass Uncle Sam.

Well, I retired from the federal government last month and am now working for a large multinational corporation. My federal pension is a nice income supplement, I will admit.

The gal honchoing MMS (the place where they were watching porn on the job) got fired in the BP oil scandal.

I believe the disposition of the offending personnel is still under consideration.

BTW, I had one of America's few jobs (outside the mob owned porn shops) where it was a job requirement to occasionally handle and evaluate pornography ~ and the US government paid me to do that.

It's probably too complex to explain it to you, but it's like this ~ ain't no thang!

Let me among the first to suggest that a government employee would have to be bored out of his nut to think watching internet porn would be better than sleeping on the job.

AHA!! That's why you were earlier defending my post's title!!

Hey, you deserve your pension, I'm just sick of unneccessary government waste, be it this or whatever else.

Still, that’s only on the average. There are still people who have gotten PROMOTIONS during the Obama Depression. Today I helped a young man start his own business. He’ll do well.

While I too lament the huge amount these bureaucrats rake in, they cannot be separated from the thousands of Guard and Reserve full time employees that work as Federal employees. I was one for 13 years and really appreciated the ONE bonus I earned (and I do mean EARNED). I have also given out well-deserved bonuses.

The top levels are generously compensated, but, if you do a bit of research, the income of a typical mid-level federal employee, GS-5, GS-7, GS-9 is NOT out of line for the military technicians. In some locations, they simply cannot keep people, as they cannot afford to live there on that income (bases in the D.C area for example).

Find a way to separate military federal employees from the blood-suckers, I’m all for freezes on raises and bonuses!

Where I work, we only get a bonus if the company has positive cash flow.
Not so with the GS types.

The federal pensions are paid out of funds that are, for the most part, funded up front by deductions from federal employee salaries.

Not 100% true. Employees put in 3% of their pay and the federal govt is supposed to put in an amount equal to 27% into the fund.

The payout on the backside really isn't that much. 20 years as a law enforcement officer gets you 34% of an average of your high three. Non-law enforcement get 1% for every year of service. Even after 30 years you are only getting 30%.

Lifetime medical equals being able to buy into the fed program for the same amount as when you were working until you become Medicare eligible then you are on that plan.

Amen to that, I'm grateful that I got my 1 1/2 percent per year under Nixon and Jimah!
