WASHINGTON _ The FBI was asked by top aides to President Richard Nixon to "discreetly" look into the background and personal associations of the young political aide, Mary Jo Kopechne, who drowned in 1969 when Edward M. Kennedy's car careened off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, newly released FBI documents show...

Now what possible reason would Nixon want dirt on her?
Yep, she just stole them.
Probably not so much dirt on her as the possibility her acquaintences could blackmail Kennedy over his many transgressions.
The dirt on Mary Joe was that slime Kennedy when he was making the two-backed beast with her.
Yuuuuuuuuuch!!
That makes sense.
My read on this is that, like the rest of us, Nixon wanted to know why and how Kennedy clearly got away with murder.
He looked into her relationships.
There’s a difference between trying to figure out why her death was covered up, and ‘digging up dirt’.
Isn’t it the truth. Where’s Walley when you need him?
If a Repub abandoned a girl to die, I wonder how many movies would have been made about it by now.
Its funny that, these days, instead of asking questions, journalists attack people who ask questions. Why didn’t Kennedy call for help? Why did he wait until the next day? Thats not weird, its weird that you should ask. Why does Obama have a social security number from a place he’s never been? Thats not weird either; its just weird that you should ask.
From the source document:
The FBI responded to Dean’s request on Oct. 23, 1969, but the part of the memo that discusses Kopechne’s travels is blacked out, leaving it a mystery whether she was in Greece or why the Nixon administration was interested in knowing it.
“If a Repub abandoned a girl to die, I wonder how many movies would have been made about it by now.”
Too many to count. And the perp’s name would live on in infamy and be synonymous with Hitler’s name.
True. I doubt Nixon wanted "dirt"on her for your reason or mine. However - the MSM will once again use Nixon as the distraction for the real crime here.
suffocated
It's believed that Kopechne and/or Tyler leaked the information that Senator George Smathers would be JFK's VP in the 1964 election. This portended terrible consequences for LBJ -- Baker was almost as corrupt as LBJ and had already been convicted on relatively minor charges, I believe. LBJ would surely be next (JFK, RFK, and many of us little people were well aware if LBJ's corruption) and the more serious charges against Baker would be revived and include LBJ -- along with possible capital crime charges against LBJ.
Probably had nothing to do with that drunk killing Ms. Kopechne and -- if reports I've read are true -- joking about it the rest of his life.
It just shows the sickening entanglement that's our federal government -- back when it was just "Well.. yeah they're corrupt SOBs but they are our corrupt SOBs." Now the entanglement is an existential threat.
Jackie married Onassis in October 1968, maybe Teddy was there in August and they were curious if Mary Jo had accompanied/met him there, indicating an on-going affair ?
Follow the money, follow the booty.
Looking into her background does not mean he sought dirt on her. It could mean that he was looking for dirt on her boss.
You forgot to capitalize BIGGEST WEASEL. Please don't repeat that error in the future.
I apologize. It won’t happen again.
“George Bush wasnt available at the time.”

Since when does truth and logic enter in to the equation??
Too often people forget about the Clintons. Were it not for the Republican revolution in 1994, led by Newt Gingrich, Clinton would have been just as bad as Obama and his gang. The Republicans kept him in check. The Clintons may have been even more corrupt than Obama.
