The Dutchman will not eat and sleep on the floor. Colombian hitman Trujillo Ospina, presumed assassin of Myriam Fefer, tries to visit him in his cell, which measures three meters by two-and-a-half meters.

(He) was transfered Friday to the maximum security prison Miguel Castro Castro, after confessing to murdering the young Peruian Stephany Flores. The cameras of the program "Weekly Report" record the entry of the European into the prison. Flanked by various agents and accompanied by the chief of the Institute of National Prisons, Rubén Rodríguez Rabanal, Van der Sloot was taken to a personal (single occupant) cell. He was examined by prison system doctors and was assigned the number 326390. He was able to speak Spanish and didn't need a translator...

Van der Sloot said he had a headache and hadn't eaten anything for two days....

In Plato’s Republic, if I remember correctly, there is a discussion of whether its better to be a just man hated and despised as an unjust man, OR instead an unjust man loved and revered as a just man.

Gee, don't know.

Let's ask a US Senator,

I say the reports of Van der Sloots death are premature, and wishful thinking.

WAG here, but I think he has at least an even chance of thriving in prison.

I don’t think you have a complete grasp of the political situation and public opinion down there. This is way beyond influence and money. He is a gringo who has challenged and insulted their national honor. This is the Lori Berenson on case on meth. Unless you have been reading the Peruvian newspapers and watching their TV coverage for the past week, you can’t imagine how this has been processed in the Peruvian psyche. Any public official who let him go, for any amount of money, would be lynched. He will be lucky to survive to his trial, and the only reason he will is that, again, Peruvian honor is at stake.

Si, pero los Cubanos pueden hablan Espanol. No como los Mexicanos que cantaren algo que suena Espanol.

That is hilarious. I haven't seen much of Argentina's TV programming so I had NO IDEA that they portray the Mexicans the way the Mexicans portray them! You have described the soft J much better than I did. I am going to have to find an online TV station down there. I would love to hear the canto accent. Is it used in a particular region? How can I find it? Why do I imagine that is how Don Segundo Sombra must have spoken?

Yeah and that border Spanish mixed with English is a real butchered up language (troque, lunche etc)...Then again if the Puerto Ricans and Cubans could just speak a little slower it might be easier to understand for those in old USA with SSL (spanish as a second language). I know I can speak English fast enough that those who are fluent in it but a second language can’t understand me, but I go out of my way to enunciate and speak a little mas despacio when speaking with those who are not native speakers.

Let him serve his time in Peru - after he has been someone’s bitch everyday [twice on Sundays] for about 6 months, he’ll talk ...

Ha! That is a good idea for a novel or movie. Alfred Hitchcock did it with Saboteur and North By Northwest. What’s kinda funny, I’m watching this TV show right now about Natalee Hollaway, and what really strikes me is how her mother is probably not too different than Joran’s parents. The Hollaway family is very well-to-do, and the parents appear to have a laissez faire attitude towards their daughter. I have a feeling Natalee was spoiled, as well, and probably had a feeling that nothing bad would happen to her either.

I heard they can be released after serving a third of their sentences, but I dont know how likely that is in this case.

No es cierto! Los Cubanos caen sus "s"es. ".... it is characterized by elided middle consonants and omitted final consonants..."

"Pos," apparently the Cuban accent is the remnant of Spaniards from the Canary Islands, who settled in Cuba. They, too, treat middle consonants in a similar fashion.

I tend to think that way myself after seeing rich, “beautiful” people like the Kennedys skate when the rank and file do not. However, the Flores family is also influential and famous in that country. Not sure how “forgiving” they will be toward Vanderslime.

Have you been in Peru? or do you know Peru? your words.... “But the idea he could go to a third world rat hole like Peru”....are very disrespecful to a nice country like Peru and disrespect to its people. I’ve there more than 12 times, and I’ve in many countries around the world, but Peru is my favorite. Nice warm people, lots of history and an incredible terrain, coast (nice beaches, desert), mountain (The andes) and my favarite, the jungle. THree different region with its own food, traditionsm, custom, etc. It may not be one of the riches country in the world but it is reach in natural resources.

I agree. Peru will not let him go anywhere. I think the cell shown in the video was a temporary holding cell until the trial. Money accepted from his family will go to pay for legal representation, some additional food, and maybe "some" protection. He is toast.

I agree with you. This is not some rich Kennedy who may have raped a Peruvian girl, or maybe it was consensual, and money greases palms and he’s outa there.

This is a SERIAL KILLER with an upper-middle-class family who won’t be able to do much, and he has come to Peru and brutally murdered a famous man’s only daughter. He’s NOT going to see the Aruban beaches again.

“Cheeks probably clenched so tightly he could turn coal into diamonds..”

Imagine your first visitor being the Columbian hitman, Trujillo Ospina? My guess is that by morning he will have lost the ability to fart........forever.

There is no way in heck I would have let my daughter, just out of high school, go to a foreign country with a pack of other teens. I think there were some adult chaperones, but obviously they didn’t chaperone very well.
