The Dutchman will not eat and sleep on the floor. Colombian hitman Trujillo Ospina, presumed assassin of Myriam Fefer, tries to visit him in his cell, which measures three meters by two-and-a-half meters.

(He) was transfered Friday to the maximum security prison Miguel Castro Castro, after confessing to murdering the young Peruian Stephany Flores. The cameras of the program "Weekly Report" record the entry of the European into the prison. Flanked by various agents and accompanied by the chief of the Institute of National Prisons, Rubén Rodríguez Rabanal, Van der Sloot was taken to a personal (single occupant) cell. He was examined by prison system doctors and was assigned the number 326390. He was able to speak Spanish and didn't need a translator...

Van der Sloot said he had a headache and hadn't eaten anything for two days....

“Hey Pescado! You want to live. Give me your meals, boy! And a pack of smokes. Or you’ll turn into a girl!”

I have not been following how this is playing down in Peru, but I certainly hope you are right.

I had a neighbor - husband from Madrid, wife from the Canary Islands. I could understand him perfectly but her, I understood nada. Every word had a “th” sound thrown, just for the heck of it. So “eso” became “etho” and “seuerto” became “suertho”. And her talking speed was Mach 1.

That is castellano. He’s from Madrid, and SHE has the Castilian accent? That is truly weird.

The Brasilians say that the Argentines are “a bunch of Italians speaking Spanish acting like they are British.”

One of my favorite Cholo words, like troque, is “parquear,” as in park your troque, instead of estacionarse. Cracks me up every time I hear it. And “mause” for your computer.

I’m surprised you can understand the Chilean Spanish. I was watching a video of a Chilean sports show while in language school in Costa Rica. I was struggling, until suddenly I could understand everything the person was saying. I congratulated myself on my perseverance, until I saw that the only person I could understand was Peruvian.

One week in the general prison population is my bet, he has to sleep some time.

I don't think they need the punk to sleep.

I can’t remember hearing any Chileans specifically for so long, I can’t remember anything about the accent.

Chilean Spanish is fast and consonants are only suggested optional extras.

The Brasilians say that the Argentines are “a bunch of Italians speaking Spanish acting like they are British.”

You forgot the part about the French architecture!;)

Regarding the Italian populace in Argentina, how does the saying go regarding the indigenous peoples? "In America they were put on reservations, in Mexico they married them, in Argentina they 'wiped them all out'."

I believe the “canto” is from Cordoba. (It is many years since I was in BA). I have seen it described as “lilting”.

I have no idea how you could hear it, short of going there I guess!
