Unhealthy living is almost universal in Scotland, with virtually everyone in the country putting themselves at risk, according to a study.
Glasgow University researchers analysed data from 6,574 people who took part in the 2003 Scottish Health Survey.
They identified five factors which contributed most to disease in richer countries - smoking, drinking, poor diet, physical inactivity and obesity.
The report found that 97% of Scots had at least one of the risk factors.
Some 55% of the population had three or more, while 20% had four or all five risk factors. Poverty was found to increase the risks.

Reminds me of a joke:
Husband & wife get to heaven. It is better than they ever expected. Husband gets mad a wife. Told her: If you had let me eat the way I wanted I could have been here earlier. . . . .

I thought we were suppose to be a Multiculturalist world??
I guess the Scots living the same lifestyle that generations of Scots enjoyed is suddenly a bad thing.

Poverty was found to increase the risks.
So “poor” people have more money for alcohol and cigarettes, can afford to lie around all day and consume copious quantities of food.

The survey could have been taken 200 years ago in Scotland and I’d bet it would have come to the same conclusion.

And yet, male life expectancy is Scotland is 75.3 years and women’s life expectancy there is 80 years. It’s a bit less than the rest of Europe, but shows you’ve still got a good chance at leading a long life.

I guess the Scots living the same lifestyle that generations of Scots enjoyed is suddenly a bad thing. The key word in that sentence? 'Enjoyed'.
There is a large class of people whou sit up nights worried sick that someone, somewhere might be enjoying themselves.
Don't know what they call 'em in Scotland, but here we call them liberals...

Smoking, drinking, bad diet, inactivity, and obesity I read somewhere that smoking can takes seven years off your life. I guess that could be true but it's the last seven and they're no fun anyway.

Still, considering that the Scots are still alive, makes one wonder if the so-called "health experts" are doing anything other than trying to impose fascistic control over other people with their "risk factors" - honestly, if it isn't going to kill you outright, then there should be nothing to stop each individual from deciding which risks they're comfortable with and which not. That, of course, is radically antithetical to the fascist controls the liberals/democrats want to impose on all of us under the rubric of Obastardcare.
