California Now the Least-Educated State (because of immigration)
PR Newswire / Center for Immigration Studies ^ | June 10, 2010

Posted on 06/12/2010 5:37:32 AM PDT by reaganaut1

In 1970, nine percent of California's population was comprised of immigrants; by 2008 it was 27 percent. A new report from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) finds that as a result of immigration, California now has the least-educated labor force of any state. Historically, California was not a state with a disproportionately large unskilled population, like Appalachia or parts of the South. However, immigration has transformed the state. Absent a change in immigration policy, other parts of the country may be transformed in a similar fashion.

The report, "A State Transformed: Immigration and the New California," can be found at http://www.cis.org/california-education. Among the findings:

* In 1970 California had the 7th most educated work force of the 50 states in terms of the share of its workers who had completed high school. By 2008, it ranked 50th, making it the least-educated state. One in six workers in the state has not graduated high school.

* The decline in education in California is large relative to other states. The percentage of Californians who have completed high school has increased since 1970; however, all other states made much more progress in improving education levels. As a result, California has fallen behind the rest of the country.

* The large relative decline in education in California is a direct result of immigration. Without immigrants, the share of California's labor force that has completed high school would be above the national average.

* There is no indication that California will soon close the educational gap. California ranks 35th in terms of the share of its 19-year-olds who have completed high school. Moreover, one-third of the adult immigrants who settled in the state in 2007 and 2008 had not completed high school, adding 91,000 new unskilled adults to the state.

One of the great myths of liberal America is that people have low intelligence because they live in poverty. The truth is, people who live in poverty tend to end up there because of subnormal intelligence.

They are poor, by and large, because they fail to develop basic intellectual and adaptive skills--like sound judgment, verbal comprehension, delay of gratification, etc, and end up unable to manage what money and assistance they do get, as a result.

The data from the NILSY reported years ago in The Bell Curve illustrate that unwed teen mothers typically have IQ's in the low to mid 80's. They didn't turn stupid because they got pregnant.. Try just the opposite.

Besides, you misrepresent Barack’s supporters. The best educated indoctrinated people in America overwhelmingly supported the Obamination.

There, fixed it 4 ya.

If you want a good president, a good father, a good husband, a good neighbor, a good wife etc. IQ is not necessarily a great indicator.

Social science lacks great indicators. It does have some good ones though and IQ is one of them. I agree that the distinction between above average and high IQ may not be meaningful on the variables you cite. But *low* IQ is another matter. It is often associated with poor outcomes in social functioning ... e.g. higher rates of crime, out of wedlock childbirth, child abuse, etc.

I think the original poster has a point that deserves serious consideration because a population with a lower average IQ means more individuals in the low IQ range.

“Man...I can sit and have a six-pack of beer tonight and think over that thought.”

LOL! I guess when compared to modern-day CA, the rest of us can kill off most of our brain cells with alcohol and still remain competitive! :)

It’s about to get worse. I have a feeling Obama made a deal with the mexican pres. Let us get past 2010 elections and we will give everyone amnesty. Meanwhile let me make their stay with ICE more pleasurable. Let me get them training so when they get amnesty they have jobs. Let me make it like a country club for them until amnesty paid for by taxpayers. Let me drain the taxpayers to the point they will never open their mouths again.

Obama Orders Dance Classes, Movie Nights, and Bingo for Illegal Detainees. Damn the American people, full amnesty ahead!

I have lived in California for decades, and I have seen the transformation happen. It is overwhelming and heartbreaking.

Rant #3:

Me too. only even longer. Born and raised there ... Heartbreaking very well describes what has happened to it.

Also saddening, depressing, scary, & unbelievable.

What California used to be, when I was growing up, was beautiful beyond belief, and safe, and the schools were great.

I studied Latin in the 9th and 10th grades, Spanish 5th to 8th, French 9th to 12th, Calculus, etc. In the spring I used to surf a bit in the morning and then drive up to the mountains to ski a bit around 2:00 o’clock ...

One of my towns was famous for its engineers, rockets, aircraft ...

Now?

Well, the Dems bus them in from South Central cuz it’s unfair, and then they kill each other on the bus bench outside the high school (repeatedly) and pimps cruise slowly for blonde girls walking home at 3:00 ................

Didja know we have schools JUST for pregnant 12 and 13 and 14 yr old girls (Hispanic). Isn’t that great.?

I could go on and on but I won’t ....

California was. literally, at once time, one of the most beautiful places on Earth and one of the finest in which to live.

Because of the higher birth rates of those of lessor intelligence, the weighted-average IQ of the US has been in decline for at least the past 30 years.

Yes, it is also rare that a percon in a section 8 house will take care of it. There is no incentive. After all it was “free”.

There will be no civil war here. Americans in SoCal simply have been pulling up stakes and moving to other states to get away from the disaster that mass immigration has brought to California.

When Reagan signed the 1986 Amnesty it included enforcement rules. Not one President coming after Reagan had any intention of enforcing that law. Dubya was especially bad with his “family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande” and “jobs Americans won’t do” crap. The illegals got the message loud and clear: just get here any way that you can.

Those of you outside of California better pay attention to what has happened here. It isn’t going to stay confined to California. You will lose your neighborhoods, your schools, your normal American way of life in a flood of immigration. And it will all be aided and abetted by the politicians you elect, including many of the ones you think are on your side.

Even the ones who HAVE a high school diploma are holding something that has been dumbed down so they could get one.

We may have to give Mexifornia back to Mexico just to rid ourselves of the welfare liability.

Like Palestinians, they'd just encroach further, demanding ownership of everything right up to the East Coast.
