Lobstermen in southern New England are facing a possible five-year fishing ban after biologists made that recommendation to regulators, saying the drastic step is needed to save the depleted stock . . .
The vast majority of lobsters caught in the Northeast are trapped north of Cape Cod to Maine, an area that accounts for about 93 percent of the catch and has recently grappled with the opposite problem a glut of lobsters on the market . . .

Regrettably, this is probably a good idea, and not just for lobsters...
Too bad they can’t farm lobsters like they do shrimp.

Yes they do. Bruce Frederick from PETA brought some into Howie Carr. It induces vomiting better than Ipecac.

Crab should be safe. The Bering Sea is a long way from the Gulf.

I was going to make the same comment - lobster’s cheaper than steak right now at some fish markets on the Seacoast. Having some this weekend, with beer-boiled steamers, too. ;-)

A lobster glut in the market, but the stocks are depleted.
The Unseen Hand of the Market is writing on the wall as I type.
Just a minute and it will be done!
It finished - the message is BULL SH*T!

King crab is the ultimate. Fresh off the boat would be the best. If you go to the “Time Bandit” Facebook page it’s mostly women who are gaga over the Bearing Sea crabbers

That picture of the lobster statue shows Panularis argus, not Homarus americanus.
Lobsters got claws, crawfish don’t.

I blame Canada! Read they are responsible, in part, for the glut on the market. During the boom, they build a lot of processing plants up there. The demand for processed lobster collapsed, hence the low prices of fresh lobster now.
See how they are processing lobster now?
87,000 pound of pressure per square inch kills germs, shucks the lobster and results in a 30 day shelf life. Think Whole Foods was selling a lot of this stuff.
Crushing details here.

Lobsters got claws, crawfish dont.Crawfish most certainly do have claws. That's a rock lobster...very small claws...used to grab them in Florida.
