The killing of a 15-year-old Mexican boy by a U.S. Border Patrol agent on June 7, in the corridor between El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico, has conjured an eerie as well as tragic image on both sides of the Rio Grande. The incident involved Mexican youths throwing rocks at U.S. border cops who were arresting migrants crossing illegally into Texas. But local leaders like El Paso City Councilman Beto O'Rourke fear it reflects - and could further stoke - larger, festering border tensions. "The rocks versus guns picture is not one we want here," says O'Rourke. "It looks too much like Israel and Palestine for comfort."
O'Rourke is hardly the only border resident making that comparison this week. In the wake of Arizona's angry crackdown on illegal immigrants - and as President Obama plans to send 1,200 federal troops to beef up security along America's porous, 2,000-mile-long the southern frontier - border watchers fear the increasingly confrontational climate is encouraging U.S. border authorities to respond with heavier force. "I worry that officers may feel emboldened now to see themselves not just as law enforcement but as soldiers on a battlefield, defending the country against an invading enemy of Mexicans," says University of Texas-El Paso political science professor Tony Payan. Said Mexico's Foreign Ministry: "The growing frequency of this kind of event reflects a troubling trend in the use of excessive force by some border agents." OMG.
Note to self: Don’t bring rock to gun fight.
How about we just finish the #@^% fence.
I have taught my children that you do not take what is not yours. You are not entitled to trespass on other peoples property. Doing either, can get you shot. Is that a hard concept to understand?
Rocks; i.e. big rocks and bricks, are potentially lethal missiles. What should the Border Patrol respond with? Rocks and bricks just to make it fair?
They should, because they are.
Anyone paying attention to the racist rhetoric of La Raza and MECHA could have told you that their alliance with the Palestinan war against Israel would lead to an “American Intifada”.
I meant to say with the “Leftist’s support for the Palestinian war...”
Maybe it's time for Americans to throw bigger rocks
Yep, it was only a matter of time (and the right “crisis”)
Obamafada, the Home Version.
The “teen” was involved in human smuggling, per last night’s news. More of that kind need to be shot.
BUILD THE WALL, NOW!
The Mexican military has been crossing into Texas numerous times on wheels and by air.
The war is on and our border must be defended by our military.
Maybe we can learn from the Israelis.
1. Declare our southern border a national emergency and impose martial law by deploying national guard troops along the California, Arizona, Texas border.
2. Give Mexico a 24 hour notice of a shoot-to-kill order for anyone attempting to enter the U.S. illegally. Set up command and fire zones. Any American citizen entering Mexico is on his or her own.
3. Take one border county in Arizona. Under martial law round up all suspected illegals for immediate deportation or imprisonment on outstanding warrants. Seize all monies, properties, equities, cars etc. Any deported illegal caught back in the U.S. will be imprisoned for 25 years without parole. 4. Place the armed forces on high alert because it is highly conceivable that we will have to fight a prolonged border war.
or; Just let it continue and watch this country destroyed before your eyes.
“Just let it continue and watch this country destroyed before your eyes.”
I believe that’s the plan!
When the Mexican cops pointed their weapons the folks on the U.S. side should have returned the favor in kind. The should have not backed down.
