The Obama administration has been delaying the release of a Justice Department report that ties the growing availability of methamphetamine in the U.S. to large-scale production of the drug in Mexico.
The delay, according to The New York Times, is partly a response to the increasingly delicate politics of the U.S.-Mexico border and drugs. The report, by the department’s National Drug Intelligence Center, was to be handed out at a law enforcement conference in San Diego last month, but the White House officials raised concerns because that same week President Felipe Calderón of Mexico was coming to Washington for a state visit.
The Mexican government complained about an earlier NDIC report that portrayed drug trafficking in Mexico in stark terms. The unreleased report says drug cartels easily bypass the Mexican government’s restrictions on importing chemicals used to make meth, the Times reported.
Justice Department spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler told the Times that the department was delaying the report’s release for administrative reasons.

The paper here recently had a story about a child taken into custody for being in a meth house, then released to the grandmother, then was found again in the same house visiting his mother. They showed a pic of his mother (27), that looked exactly like the one on the right, making readers think that they had accidentally put in the grandmother’s pic, but noooo....

In the meantime, law abiding American citizens practically have to give a DNA sample, finger prints, 3 forms of ID, and their first born to get pseudoephedrine for allergies or sinus headaches. Yeah, THAT policy has worked really well.

The FDA has practically banned OTC pseudoephedrine. And yes, I used to take Advil Sinus, which had that in it, on occasion for sinus headaches and allergies. Now, this type of medication either adds phenolephedrine (which does NOT work as well) or the pharmacy makes you jump through boat loads of red tape to get the access to pseudoephedrine, even though it’s OTC. All because pseudoephedrine is an ingredient in making meth. And has the meth trade slowed one iota? No, it’s just moved south of the border, where the ingredients are easier to procure. No problemo getting it back north again with our current border situation. In the meantime, law abiding citizens don’t have access to a drug they would use and not abuse, because of the nanny state.
