The US should fund the DEFICIT! Not high speed rails, not trillion dollar takeovers of the economy, and not labor interests.

Like anything written by Corrine Brown could be taken seriously. She is a corrupt wack-job and she only sullies the forum, imo. And she loves her some muslims too.

Can anyone point to a high speed rail project that is self-sustaining and doesn’t need gobs of tax money to keep it going?

Why are these people keep using foreign nations, with different working societies and transportation system? Europe and Japan are in need of such trains because of too many cars and not enough roads (either to drive or park). Prime example is NYC, where owning a car is quite foolish unless you can afford paying an arm and a leg for assigned parking garage or you are eager to move the car once a week, from one side of the street to the other, to allow the sweepers through. And let's not add the ridiculous insurance rates. Same applies in Europe and Japan, where cars are more for luxury than a necessity.
I am eager to bet that this moron never set foot in Europe or Japan nor did she ever take the speed trains there to understand their usefulness in that environment only!

I would love to have rail as a traveling option across the country. I can’t stand the mess of flying anymore but I imagine rail would be just as messed up pretty quickly. As for using it within cities or even regionally, our current city have just not been designed with efficient mass transit in mind. Maybe when gas hits $10 a gallon, mindsets will change, who knows.

“We cannot just focus on building more roads.”
Road-building and endless repair are make-work alternaives to welfare for local gov’ts. Using different materials they could make roads more durable and less in need of resurfacing but then what would all those otherwiese unemployable people do for jobs ?

It is not possible in the U.S., at least not under the present system. It takes up to 20 years to get one built. The planning process alone takes at least a decade and many billions of dollars.
The U.S. system is so broken it simply can not happen.

So Corrine, are you going to stop the environmental wackos from suing so that the “high speed” train will only be allowed to go 45 miles per hour so as not to hurt any endangered snails that may attempt to cross the tracks? (Gotta give the conductor time to stop!)

why do we need more public transportation?
how are they going to pay for it?
to help the country, we would need to produce something other countries want ... thereby bringing money into the country.

Hell no!
Not only will it cost us billions to build it, it will cost more to sustain it and the unions that run it.
