If that is the case- then he was likely taken in the commotion of all the extra people at the school for the Science Fair. I hope that is not true- I hope this is some sort of custody issue or something like that.
Sounds like CYA to me by the school district. It is mandatory for the children to attend school, and I assume because of that the school district is responsible for the children's safety until they are delivered back to their parents/custodians. If I am right on this, then the school district faces massive fines by the parents/custodians. Elementary schools we have visited have very good security and attendance verification. Sounds like a major screw up by the school system, starting with the little boy's teacher.
Where am I wrong on this?
HIS stepmother took the picture of him in front of his science project...
I am basing this on nothing more than a gut feeling. [I am the first to admit that it amounts to nothing. ] I don’t think his biological mother is involved.
I agree the school building needs to be checked and checked again. There are so many nooks and crannies.

I am not trying to be an alarmist, but if the little boy is trapped somewhere in that building, time is reaching the critical point.
It sounds like this boy disappeared right from inside the school.
Scary......
I was thinking the same thing. Strangers at the school for the science fair, and possibly someone slipped in that wasn’t even a parent.
Yes, and remember the Yale coed who was murdered in the Science lab, and her body was hidden in a crawl space.
Prayers for the little boy
We used to live in a large city, before we had children. For a long time, we kept receiving automated messages from a school stating simply: "Your son or daughter was not in school today. Please call the school to confirm your child's absence." The name of the school was given, but no number.
After receiving these calls again and again, I looked up the number to the school and called. I told them we had no children but were receiving these calls. The office worker said, "Just ignore them. The calls should stop eventually."
I said: But, in the meantime, a student has been missing school, and the parent doesn't know. Apparently, the school has the wrong number, and it's my number. Can they trace the student through my number?
The woman said: No, there's no way to trace it. Just ignore the calls.
The recorded calls kept coming for months. Finally, a teacher called. When I told her what had been happening, she was surprised, but the calls stopped then.
That's why, when we had small children, I decided to see how our local school would deal with an absence. ;-)
I hope and pray they find this little boy alive and well - perhaps, as someone else suggested, with a noncustodial parent or relative.
“HIS stepmother took the picture of him in front of his science project...”
Unless this cements her alibi and is a picture taken at another place or time.

Nice to see you focued on what's really important.
This is awful. They need to interview/search the dwellings/vehicles of all known sex offenders within 100 miles. Given the broken home, they need to interview/search the homes of all relatives on both sides of the family. I pray to God it is a family problem. Custody kidnappings are ugly, but the other scenario is almost too awful to contemplate.
BUMP
Exactly, he disappeared while at school.
From another news source..
You could try reading the rest of my post, unless two consecutive sentences is one too many.
That was my first thought also.
My guess, too.
I hope that is not true- I hope this is some sort of custody issue or something like that.
Yep. At least that would have a better chance for a favorable outcome.
As I wrote, it is nice to see that you are focused on what is really important, regardless of any follow-on disclaimer.
