CANCUN, Mexico (AP) Police discovered six dead bodies in a cavern near the tourist resort of Cancun on Sunday, three of them cut open and their hearts removed.
Authorities are investigating the identities of the four men and two women found dead in the natural cave, said Francisco Alor, the Quintana Roo state attorney general.
"They were apparently tortured and their chests were opened to remove the hearts," Alor's office said later in a statement.
Three of the bodies had the letter "Z'' carved on their abdomens a possible reference to the Zeta drug gang, though officials did not make an explicit connection to cartel violence that has plagued many parts of Mexico.

>> And Calderon has the gall to criticize America.
My thoughts too.
If I get my hands on you, your dead-Dead!
Aztec cultural revival in full swing.
They’re only committing the human sacrifices that Americans are unwilling to commit.
They were tortured first, too, by all the evidence.
There are some people who I would not only not mind seeing burn in hell for eternity, but wouldn’t mind pushing in myself.
Aztlan sacrifice re-enacting Aztec rituals is my guess.
Where is Hernando Cortez when you REALLY need him?????
I see this as an extremely bad, even awful portent.
To explain, there is now a Mesoamerican-throwback cult in Mexico, that while using some Catholic symbolism (and extremely condemned by the Catholic church), is a clear effort to revive the old Aztec and other tribal religions.
It is the “Santa Muerte” (Saint Death) cult.
It is estimated to have between 1-2 million semi-followers. It has even crossed the border into the US Mexican communities.
Santa Muerte is based on the gods Mictlantecuhtli and Mictecacihuatl, the lord and lady of Mictlan, the realm of the dead. In order for the deceased to be accepted into Mictlan, offerings to the lord and lady were necessary. Many of the offerings given then are the same as those offered to Santa Muerte today.
The problem is that with a lot of these deities, human sacrifice, often by decapitation or removal of the heart, as well as ritual cannibalism, were the “orthodox” practices to appease these gods.
Likely, as the situation of chaos in Mexico deepens, it will result in more and more gruesome examples of butchery. If the cult develops a charismatic leader, it may gather its own inertia, killing for the sake of killing, a full fledged death cult.
India had one such cult, called the Thuggee, and it went on an armed robbery, butchery spree that lasted until the British wiped them out twice. There are still remnants of it in India.
The problem with death cults is that they have no discretion. They will kill anyone: men, women, children, any race.
Yeah they whoopped them pretty good in Gunga Din.
Mexico is becoming a very sick society.
America ain’t far behind.

I thought Zorro was a good guy,Damn.
The Mayans are back?

I was thinking Santeria.
Also, many of the drug gangs are into the worship of Mictecacihuatl the Aztec goddess of the dead who demands human sacrifice.
Theyre only committing the human sacrifices that Americans are unwilling to commit.

OK, THAT is funny.
From MrR:
“Gimme that old-time Religion”
The drug gangs torture their rivals before killing them. It was on the History channel not long ago...GANGLAND.
I still haven’t seen what nationality the victims are.
whats the difference between juju and santaria?
most parade as Christians, just a slightly different sect, voodeo christians....
I'm guessing that they're fellow drug gang members. They're sending a message.
No upside in torturing tourists. Just rob them, maybe kill them if you have to. Cutting their hearts out would just draw tons of unwanted attention to you.
The Aztecs are back?
Were these locals or tourists that were killed?
