Does this mean that when I review resumes I get to completely discount any college degree “earned” in a California school? If not done explicitly, it WILL be done as a matter of practice.

It’s not “Jim Crow”, it’s “Affirmative Action”. :)

The Third World takeover continues. American whites will be discriminated against and probably insulted by the academics. The Third Worlders cannot compete intellectually hence they “rule out” the whites. Mark your papers with the little happy face and keep smiling.

Yeah, ‘cause California colleges aren’t diverse enough. Professors notwithstanding, there’s a shortage of idiots. They better do something quick to improve the idiot-to-scholar ratio...in favor of the idiots!

"But opponents say the measure violates Proposition 209"

Once again government operates in opposition to the will of the people.

Democratic Assemblyman Ed Hernandez, who introduced the bill, says the legislation is needed to address the education gap in California. Currently, the state's black and Latino students trail whites and Asians in college attainment.

If the legislators really want to "address the education gap," they would encourage underperforming students to study harder.

Great law from the non americans in CA gov’t. Now I would have to pay taxes to support schools that my kids would not be allowed to attend.

The California Assembly has approved a bill that would allow the state's public universities to consider race, gender and other demographic characteristics when they admit students.

Only a racist bigot would support this new law. If it would be wrong to permit state universities to require black and Hispanic applicants to meet higher admission standards than white and Asian students, then it is precisely as wrong to permit racism in the other direction. As I said, only a liberal would support this new law.

Currently, the state's black and Latino students trail whites and Asians in college attainment.

Let me see, what to do ... lower the college admission bar OR improve the the local schools that put out the under-performing students? This might be a real decision if it were not for the entrenched interest groups like bureaucrats, unions, 'civil rights advocates' and (maybe) 'community organizers' who have a vested interest in maintaining an underclass!

Since realpolitik over-rules logic and reason, watch the "Golden State Goose" continue to be butchered for short term political

In California’s legal structure voter passed initiatives are the equivalent of state Constitutional changes/mandates. But, California Dims don’t care too much about pesky things like Constitutions anyway, especially not when those legal restrictions are in THEIR way.

If they would relieve “minority” students from the “government plantation society” of public schools, allow vouchers, “charter” schools and any reasonable remedy from them, then more “minority” students would make it on their own to college, without “saving a special place” for them.

It is the liberal/progressive/Marxist education policies and agenda in the K-12 grades that create the disparities in “minorities” reaching preparation for college, much less preparation for success there once they are admitted.

So, IOW, CA has to admit 3-4 times as many blacks/hispanics as they do whites/asians in hopes that the numbers of blacks/hispanics who actually graduate will somehow approach the numbers of whites/asians who graduate.

Of course - makes perfect sense.

Wonder if whites will ever get their heads out of their arses?

They do it now, anyway. They set aside a percentage in impacted majors, they make deals to take a certain percentage from picked high schools. They have lots of ways around current law. This will just make what they already have been doing for years...legal.

What part of “Equal Protection” do these liberals not understand? Once again, the Democrat Party lines up in opposition to the Constitution of the United States of America.
