Agreed, but it is a stupid law.
All of the air crews members of all of the air lines that favor responsible crew members being able to carry should pick a busy day and all show up carrying.
It would be an attention getter.
They could either shutdown the air transportation industry or make some long needed modifications to laws and regulations regarding firearms and airports.
One may forget even if one is not an airhead.
There’s a great book by Ken Murray “Training at the speed of life”, in which he discusses range safety for force-on-force training. Basically, he points out that humans are creatures of habit. For example, if you’re normally armed, you develop the habit of making sure the weapon(s) are where they’re “supposed to be”, ie, in your holster, your purse, you vehicle, what have you. When it comes time to disarm (in his example prior to force-on-force scenario training), the RSO can COUNT on someone having a live weapon on him even after he’s been sent to the parking lot with everyone else to secure everything. It’s not that they’re trying to kill their partners, nor even that they’re stupid, but that they’re human.
Double-check and then check again is what I have to do, but I don’t kid myself that somewhere, some day I can’t make the same mistake that hundreds before me have made. I guess what i’m trying to say is that it’s hubris to think that only others, or “airheads” can err in this fashion.
That was a close call.
