With a judge's earlier ruling that Chicago Police Officer John Ardelean had been arrested and detained without probable cause, Cook County prosecutors today dropped all charges against him in a crash that killed two people.
The 36-year-old officer was charged with drunken driving and reckless homicide after his SUV broadsided a car on Thanksgiving 2007.

Give us this day our ‘Daley’ bread....
....nice hat dooooooshbag!
I cant fight them, because if I would win, I figured they would just arrest me again driving away from the court house.
Gee, it is a good thing he didn’t do something really serious . . . like shoot an illegal alien drug smuggler in the butt! < / sarcasm >
I meant only to explain why the BAC might of been lower, but thanks for the additional details.
As usual it’s difficult to come to any certain conclusions with the poor excuse for journalism out there.
But I think it’s safe to say that the crash investigation could have been done better, leaving no doubt about the officer’s guilt or innocence and avoiding another hit to the PD’s reputaion.
You can slam 4 drinks and then head out the door. Officers typically wait upwards of an hour to breath test a driver accused of drunkeness.
Some will blow higher, some will blow lower. Depends on if he grabbed “one for the road” or drank them a happy hour and then stuck around for 4 hours.
evidently you cant comprehend written text very well, as i stated the 'routine', especially considering it was a fatal collision, would be to issue the BAC test, for whatever arbitrary conclusion it gives...
the fact that his pals did not do so points to complicity and the hypocrisy of the test in the first place...
checkpoints are as commie/fascist as it gets, and the lack of acknowledgement of that brings yer ideology into question, comrade...
dui 'laws' are a joke to my FReedoms, but when someone is injured by negligent behavior, they must be held responsible...if that kind of FReedom scares ya, id suggest lockin yer doors and living in fear...
So let me get this straight - a cop kills two while driving drunk, his fellow cops cover for him at the scene and by lying in court and, as a consequence, he literally gets away with murder?
Nah. Never happens. Just ask any cop.
Just another of the rare, insignificant examples of the 99% giving the 1% a bad name.
First I’m a Deputy Sheriff, second I will cut a brother slack on a speeding violation, but never a DUI or especially a Vehicular Homicide. We don’t all have the Chicago mentality
I don’t know what happened here and or if this is accurate information to to make a determination if this is a good or bad call. What I don’t understand about all of the anti-cop people here is they have no problem disputing or scrutinizing the liberal media about other news stories, that is until an anti-police report comes up and they fall right into line with the liberal reporters version, go figure.......
One thing about a Sheriff, he is an elected official and is re-elected every four years and must maintain a public voter support and that means an honest approach to all matters, especially internal affairs.
A Police chief is not a publicly elected official and is appointed by a board of alderman who seem to continue a political appointment of a Police Chief’s career for years without the publics support or ability to make a change in the appointment of a new chief. Maybe all Police Chiefs should be placed on the ballot to help give them a little incentive to maintain an honest force.
Best thing to do is stay FAR away from Chicago.
Well for one thing, a liberal reporter talking about a conservative will always show a bias, that's politics, but unless you are arguing that all police officers are politicians your confusion is simple refusal to acknowledge that even liberal reporters get facts right most of the time, if there isn't a reason to inject political bias. Please feel free to explain where the liberal bias in a report such as this would be.
You're not going to score any points pulling stuff like that.
What a backwards ass state.
Maybe the il. will no longer exist after the war
I will cheer the attackers on!
Later, I will buy them all the beer they can drink!
Wasn’t really worried about points considering the insults that have been thrown my way.
Plenty of folks will excuse ANYTHING a cop does. Those same folks will condemn anyone who questions behavior of bad cops.
“Well for one thing, a liberal reporter talking about a conservative will always show a bias, that’s politics, “
As you state, a liberal reporter talking about a conservative will always show a bias” Very well put! The enforcement of law has not been viewed by the press in a positive manner in years so why would this be any different?
I’m not taking up for this Officer, I merely stated that I have not seen sufficient or known accurate information to make an honest determination of his guilt or the departments mishandling of the situation, have you?. I also made note that those here trying to throw him under the train without same are relying on an unreliable source of information namely the press.
My only reference to politics was a way to reign in corrupt Police Chiefs by placing them under public selection and continuation of service by the publics vote.
That's odd. I remember getting a speeding ticket when I worked for the Post Office. The jackbooted thug didn't tell me that my status as a fellow bloodsucking parasite allowed me to drive as I wished. Similarly, nobody ever told me that I didn't have to pay my taxes.
I guess there is no honor among thieves. Crime isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Cops are just like any other group of people. There's good ones and bad ones. It's just that the bad ones have the power to do a lot of evil in the world.
