Plenty of folks will excuse ANYTHING a cop does. Those same folks will condemn anyone who questions behavior of bad cops.

Been there; oddly, when I was criticizing the SWAT team in that recent video (where they shot the guy’s dogs) over their tactical procedure [namely: one/two guys splitting off-stack and then having to call for the extra] and the time wasted with the majority (apparently) in the kitchen messing with the wounded dog. {I’m prior infantry.}
