Gurgling in a mix of wonder and joy, this is the incredible moment a child hears his mother's voice for the first time.
Eight-month-old Jonathan was born deaf and had cochlear implants put into his ears so he could hear.
His father filmed the tear-jerking moment they were turned on for the first time, capturing the amazement in the boy's face as he heard his mother's voice saying his name.
Video at link
Seconds before the implant is turned on, Jonathan rests peacefully in his mother's arms
The implant is turned on - and Jonathan, hearing his mother's voice for the first time, turns to her, his dummy dropping from his mouth as it opens in amazement

I know that this is not your normal up-in-arms ping, but we could all use a nice “awwww, shucks” moment from time-to-time.
Just wait for the “deaf community’s” harsh reaction to this.
Thanks for the ping!
Love that smile when he looks at his mom...Thanks.
Very nice thing to share.
I was tearing up like a American league umpire.Seriously,
a nice post. The look on the faces of mother and child-priceless.

Beyond words, just beyond um.
Beautiful.
Wow.
Nice to see something GOOD in the news, for once.

Thanks so much for posting. What a miracle. Rush Limbaugh also can hear because of cochlear implants. They are incredible. Moms—have your babies tested early!
That is such a sweet video. It brings tears to my eyes.
Thanks for sharing this Mark.
It’s my *sniff* of the morning!
Good thing I have a box of tissues near the computer.
Deaf people have formed such a community in some places that they look upon someone curing deafness as robbing them of members of their culture.
I remember the hearing of two deaf parents with genetic defects screening their offspring to ensure that their child would inherit deafness. To them, it wasn't preferable to have a fully functioning child, it was more important to create a new member of their deaf culture.
Strange.
Me too. I may have to save this somewhere to view again when I’m having a crap day, or the news sucks, and I need a reason to feel happy.
